Try an automatic transmission, you never get going good enough to worry about the party lights

 

I got out of a ticket in Vernal driving a second gen back in the day

 

Paint is done and for now I guess I'm stalled out until some brake parts come in. In the meantime @eimkeith has a part for his gas tank lift bracket concept for me to test and measure since I'm still all torn down back there...

 

Trying to determine if I should fab something to cover this gap caused by a regular cab shell on an access cab, or hold off and continue to hunt for a proper fitting shell.

My initial plan was to just weld the spare tire carrier back in there, but then I decided I wanted to try and raise it up a bit

 

I have a green access cab shell you can have if you're ever in Southern Indiana. Average condition.

Decided to retrofit my headlights since there isn’t much support for these headlights in aftermarket. Got tired of blinding people with the led bulbs in stock headlamps.

 

So, a month ago, I was looking for a transfer case and got a ton of help from a lot of people with information, leads to cases, etc. One of the things that was tough for everyone was identification of cases - as in, what to look for when replacing a case in order to ensure proper operation with whatever features/functionality your particular truck has/needs.

So, I put together these two diagrams that try to help with the situation a bit. And of course, I wrote up my story (what happened, my solution), as specifics on how to actually do it (step-by-step).

Also I'd like to add that my multimode case you used in photos is a forward shift case which 3rd gen 4runners do not have. As mine is from a Surf. So you can see the forward shift forks in it. Just worth mentioning.

Monte - besides the shifter being in that forward position, I don't really understand what a forward shift case is. I thought that the shifter was in that position just b/c the tcase was longer (would stick rearward more) and so the shifter needed to be "in the same spot" - which is to say, further forward.

I think maybe what you're saying is that forward shift means that the shift forks are outside/in front of the tcase altogether?

And, you're saying that the case you have wouldn't even fit a 4Runner? Which means that it mates with an entirely different trans (or adapter or something) on the surf?
