Fuck me, this Delta VS unit is screaming quality!

Due to limited time, I may push this install until Friday or Saturday. With that said, I wasn’t going to leave myself (or anyone here) high and dry without some pictures!

    20220131_112012.jpg

Once you open the box up and pick up the pieces, you SEE and FEEL the quality right away.

Starting with the small faceplate, where many different styles are available to fit ones needs. As you can see, I went with the basic one as I have no need for multiple switches, an S-pod, or similar devices. No extra charge when picking between faceplates.

    20220131_112426.jpg

    20220131_112437.jpg

To prevent any marring of the finish, each and every panel was individually wrapped as so.

    20220131_112445.jpg

    Even the hardware looks fantastic.

    20220131_112137.jpg

Digging deeper I found it, the main piece that brings everything together...

    20220131_112154.jpg

    the shift console!

    20220131_112245.jpg

It screams quality. The metal is surprisingly thick as hell too, adding a lot of weight to the console. No worrying about vibrations here!

    20220131_112230.jpg

Someone did ask about the new shift boot for the transfer case. I'd have to look at my invoice but I'm 99.9% sure I paid the extra to get it. I didn't want to reuse my old one as it's dirty, dry, and about to rip.

Nice thing is, they topped it off with a fully printed instruction manual, AND A STICKER :angrygirl:

    20220131_112144.jpg

Bronx couldn't hold his excitement as he wanted to be a part of the unboxing

    20220131_112723_capture.jpg

Not to forget, the locking center console!

This thing is wrapped up so well, it pains me to take it out considering the install won't happen today, so here's a sneak peek.

    20220131_112814.jpg

    20220131_112930.jpg

Now to wait for the rest of all my shit to arrive! Can't do like the last build thread and stockpile parts without installing them :bananadead:

I should add that, even with all that stuff ordered, I went ahead and placed a second order with Delta VS.

I was back and forth about keeping the CB radio, a Uniden Bearcat 680, and after plenty of thought I decided I will.

With this plate I ordered, I'd be able to neatly install the Uniden exactly where it sits now.

    5e9a212808c98729f4eb52d4_IMG_1083.jpg

With the order, I also added a new lower dash piece which is the complete bezel that goes around the stereo and climate control. Current one looks like shit so this will really bring new life to the entire setup.

    The factory radio?

Yeah its double din sized like 1st Gen Taco's and 3rd Gen 4Runners.

The Delta VS are all components that sit below the stereo and climate control area though.

I'm sure I can put a single and comms below it, but I'll stick to my hand held for FRS/GMRS and keep the Uniden in the back where it is now.

    20220201_094525.jpg

If you scroll up, you'll see a rear plate attachment for the Delta VS center console. I plan to use that as the mounting platform for the Uniden.

This center console has seen better days :bananadead:

Man, Delta VS is fast at shipping shit out!

Expected delivery of Saturday turned to getting those parts today, just in time for tomorrow's install!

Here's the double din, climate control bezel replacement.

    20220203_180923.jpg

And the bracket for the center console; what's cool is this can be attached inside, on the outside, or the rear. Will be perfect for the CB radio in the back.

    20220203_180931.jpg

And in case you didn't notice, yes that's another Toyota plug to cover any and all blanks.

Dude, ditch that steering wheel cover and get one of these - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DR8BHZ7

That's the exact one I stitched over the stock steering wheel cover in the 4Runner. It's tedious but holyfuckingshit is it worth it. The steering wheel is like brand new now and feels so nice. And no more slip-on cover that moves around on you while driving.

Alright, the moment some of you have been waiting for. It's been a bit of a day you know?

We all know threads are useless without pics, so here we go!

The interior really needed a change, not so much because the vehicle is old but because it's really beat to shit. The pictures make the console look nicer than it really is, but not only is it filthy, it has tons of scratches all over the plastic. If you missed the before pics, just scroll up a few posts.

Here's a quick one once I pulled off the climate control bezel, shifter console, as well as the center console. God knows how long all that dirt and hair has been there.

    20220204_114326[159].jpg

    The factory goodies.

    20220204_114257[160].jpg

Here it is up close, just before pulling off the switches.

With some elbow grease, I'm sure I can get the bezel looking really nice once I pull off the wood trim. The unfortunate thing here is, I was under the impression that the wood trim specifically around the climate controls was part of the larger piece.

    20220204_131723[176].jpg

The new one, receiving all the goods. I'll have to stare at the wood trim for a bit longer until I decide to do something about it.

    20220204_133305[177].jpg

Before install, it only seemed fitting to give it a quick vacuuming. You'll catch a tiny peak at the new shifter console partially installed.

Also, it's cool to see that there were multiple options available for these LC's to include but not limited to a phone, multi-disc changer, and even a fridge!

    20220204_134320[179].jpg

Now I say partially because I ran into a bit of a hiccup; Delta VS provides a lot of hardware but in one instance, they require you to re-use your factory bolts.

Those are the M6 bolts located to the front of the shifter console. Unfortunately, due to the spacer and panel, the bolt is just too short to get threaded on. I mean, I barely got the left side to catch but made absolutely no progress on the right.

    20220204_121846[165].jpg

    20220204_130104[164].jpg

Here you can see what I mean.

    20220204_122228[166].jpg

A trip to the local hardware store took care of that fortunately.

    20220204_130058[175].jpg

    20220204_130256[178].jpg

Once those were in, it was onto installing the console and *drum roll* CUP HOLDERS!

I had completely forgotten I ordered them, and so when I found a box inside the center console, I was genuinely confused until I opened it

    And here she is installed!

    20220204_150551[190].jpg

    20220204_150426[189].jpg

    Hope you all enjoyed!

Now for my other shit to arrive.

As for the rear mounting plate, I figured I'd hold off and just uninstall the CB radio. Once I opt for new comms, I'll go ahead and install it to the rear of the console.

So the question then becomes, do I go with Blue Sea USB chargers for the 12V slots?

Or save some of my monies and get something cheaper (but not flashy).

I need to figure out a phone mount, been thinking of getting one of Wit's Ends plug inserts and maybe even one of their ashtray block off plates.

I think ProClip makes a mount. I remember seeing an indie 3d printed one for 80s too (http://www.bh3dprinting.com/product/91-94-80-series-dash-phone-mount/) Guess it depends on if you're using your phone for nav or not?
Also never hear many complaints on Blue Sea...buy once cry once?
