The OR DC Shortbed that was wheelin' with us last week was already having problems with getting high-centered.

the only thing I would LOVE to see on our trucks is a rear window similar to the tundra: electronic window up down, up down up down up down :D

Keep this body style for as long as possible. As soon as there is a new one all of our trucks are going to take a hit in depreciation...

    Exactly

My DC will be a family hauler and i would like to take advantage when the conditions are right for ATrac and a real locked rear end... as opposed to brake activated LSD

I would rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it...

I still maintain that they will/should change AT LEAST the 4.0 V6 to dual VVT-I. It doesn't make sense to produce the Dual VVT-I 4.0 in the 4Runner, FJ Cruiser and Tundra and the single VVT-I 4.0 in the Tacoma.
I’m still hopeful that they will do a model change for 2012 and use some of the 4Runner styling, which I personally like.
The last design change for the Tacoma followed the 4Runner by two years. 4th generation 4Runner was in 2003, the Tacoma 2nd generation was in 2005. The 5th generation 4Runner came out for model year 2010…therefore we should see a 3rd generation Tacoma for 2012???
Maybe wishful thinking but I can still hope.
Also just to note, when the 2nd generation Tacoma came out in 2005 it had a 5 speed auto. Which was also the case for the 4Runner in 2005, however the 4Runner had a 4 speed auto with the 4.0 for the model year 2003 & 2004. SO hopefully we would also see an updated transmission for the 2012 Tacoma, 6 speeds I hope (fingers crossed!).
Oh, and I’m very much in the market for a new Tacoma.

My friend has an extended cab Tundra 2wd TRD OR... its horrible off-road. So I kinda get the feeling that TRD OR exists more to sell vehicles than for actual off roading.

My guess is that 2012 will probably just be a very mild "refresh" of a few body panels (if that) so as to not require major modifications to production tooling, having just spent $$$$$$$$$$$ on moving the Taco equipment from NUMMI to San Antonio. That's why I ordered my '11 Taco instead of waiting for the '12, in case they beat it with an ugly stick or something.

There is no 3rd gen (yet), it will most likely be a 2.5 gen.

Can you elaborate? I'm very interested in whether or not Toyota will update the Tacoma for the 2012 model year.

As far as I can tell the 2001-2004 trucks didn't take that much of a hit when the 2005 came out.

You wouldn't want to be a dealer with a bunch of 2017 Tacomas on the lot when the all new 2018 third-gen comes out, but I don't think those of us with 2nd gens are going to suddenly take a huge hit in resale value. People like the trucks because they like the trucks.
