Pretty much everyone sticks the compressor in the engine bay in North America haha
The cubby in the bed is another option on older trucks as well.

Is it a bad thing? Arb Australia said it might not be the best idea. They said they recommend inside the cab.

This is what my hose looks like. What would I need to connect it to a setup like this? Or do I need to change the setup? Thanks.

This is what the setup looks like. What do I need to change to use my hose with it? Thanks.

I built my own mount with 1/4" aluminum plate so it mounted vertically behind the air box. I'm horrible about taking pictures of most things I build. So, I apparently don't have pics of it installed in the truck. o_O

Then plumbed air to my front locker, to an ARB air chuck behind the front grill, ARB air chuck to the right of the rear license plate, and an ARB air chuck in the bed drivers on the side near the tailgate.

I might be adding a 1 or 2 gallon tank sometime in the near future just for added capacity sake.

It blows out enough air to clean an air filter, but you'd need to let it recharge too much for detailing.

I imagine it has something to do with the search function being absolutely terrible, combined with the copious amount of information out there.

I've been mostly lurking around here for a while trying to figure out what to do for my next vehicle, and it's not all that easy to find answers to most of my questions. Just a few minutes ago I was contemplating starting a thread asking for where to find some answers to problems I've been looking into, but decided against it.

Would it really kill some of you to just point people in the right direction? How do we prove that we've looked and haven't found what we're after?

yeah and no matter how much research I do I always come on here to get a final opinion because there’s always someone who did what you want to do and you can learn from them. Some people see it as lazy but I that’s what this forum is for.

before I got my Tacoma I couldn’t even change a tire. Now I do all my mods myself.

I think if a person states in their query that they used the search function to the best of their ability, but either came up with zero results that matched their need, or the info was out dated, would be fair..

No harm asking for possibly newer content, or pointed towards a known thread. Many will accept this and be willing to support.

Everyone knows that there is always a new way to skin a cat and someone has recently found a new way to skin a cat, but hasn't necessarily felt the need to post anything. This would be a prime example of how being ear whipped to use the search function would miss an opportunity for this guy to provide his version of how to skin a cat. He never knew someone was looking for this info.

However, going straight to the question worded like it was just thought of ten minutes ago, will earn the answers they get.

I have to second the Slee mount if you can get them to ship to you. I have the mount already (bought from another member) but I don’t have a compressor yet. ARB and Slee are the way to go on a 3rd Gen for mounting under the hood.

IMO under the seat is not ideal for two reasons 1. Heat dissipation, as lifting the hood will allow more cooling and 2. Having to open the door to run air, could be a problem if you’re on the side of the freeway as apposed to just lifting your hood. I don’t like the under seat mount at all.

Function is also a variable. IMO if it’s just airing up/down, then inside the cabin is fine. But if you’re running airlockers it would get real annoying to have to be in the same airspace as the compressor. They are certainly not quiet, that’s for sure!

I spent three weeks in the SE Oregon desert last summer. So much dust!

At times I drove 2-3 hours straight on very dusty washboard roads. Other times in 6" - 12" of moon dust trying to find a stupid shortcut through the sage brush. Sent up a 30 foot high plume of dust that stayed suspended for at least 1/2 mile behind me.

My compressor is mounted between the firewall and the airbox close to the passenger front fender. Neither the compressor or the engine air filter were dusty at all. I thought for sure the moon dust adventure was going to hose them both.

On a side note, I have no reason to run the compressor while driving, unless I am in need of the front locker. Haven't hit a trail where I have needed it yet. And on that day, I am pretty sure it won't be a dusty trail.

So, under the hood is perfectly fine. Probably best area due to ample air flow for cooling.

So what, you're going to crawl out the back window in that freeway scenario? What ever situation has you airing up on the side of the road (plugging a tire, or putting on a spare that's low) is far more risky than opening the dang door. Such a silly rationalization.

Oh my bad, I should just dump my slee set up under my hood and go with an 18 year olds recommendation on YouTube who is schilling for desert does it!

agreed! And have we discussed serviceability? Do you really want to be trouble shooting your compressor and swapping out fittings with it mounted under a seat? It’s also ironical that the thousands of people running slee or Rago mounts under the hood haven’t voiced any issues or concerns as well. Ymmv
