Updated LSD Question..and RSCA?

    so i just took the truck out for a rip.. all of our roads are ice.. i turned trac control off, the dash said the track was off and LSD was engaged.. i threw it sideways through a 90 degree turn.. traction control beeped and blinked and kicked it..WTF! i came up a hill which earlier today w. Trac control i barely made it because the 'on/off' throttle thing destroys your momentum... i took it off so i had LSD and i went up so much better, so i am happy with this discovery (please note that i hate using 4WD just becasue it pisses me old lady off and because i beleive it will do anything in 2WD...)... but say i want to 'lay a shot' someday... i dont seem to have a 'VSC' button to turn them both off... i do have an RSCA Button.. can anyone tell me what this is.. it does nothing when pushed, or held for a few seconds, and i cant find it in my manual?

    hold the vsc button down when stopped and all systems will turn off.

    rsca is the rollover side curtain airbags....

    oh so the 'Traction Control Button' is the 'VSC Button'?? i did hold this in and they didnt turn off.. i do tend to get a bit crazy.. i mean i only see snow for 4 months a year i gotta have some fun while its here.. plus i hate traction control and 'MOST OF THE TIME' i hate ABS

    ok.. now i remember reading that in my last thread about being stopped.. but didnt know the VSC was the Trac.. im guessing this means Vehicle Stability Control?? Kinda just put 2 and 2 together haha

    Ha ha kind off strange, defeats purpose of turning off. So this thing kicks in randomly? That must be surprise factor, imagine drifting through turn then suddenly VSC kicks in and starts braking.:D

    Its just strange, when I turn off Traction in my Nissan it stays off until I turn ON.

    Being able to turn it off completely is big help. Just like KevLot17 wrote
    I need to turn it off often otherwise car won't climb ... :rolleyes:
    I hate traction systems... :mad:

    Actually, it isn't wrong... it is just the poor wording and names Toyota used to describe the drive modes/ traction controls.

    In 4WD High (H4) you cannot go into the TRAC OFF MODE (which is the other name for AUTO LSD) because that is a 2WD only feature.

    You can go into the VSC OFF MODE (which is both TRAC OFF and VSC OFF).

    The normal mode in H4 is called 'TRAC', but it is TRAC without engine regulation... which is the same as AUTO LSD (but on all 4 wheels).

    So, in H4 you have TWO drive mode options: TRAC (no engine output regulation for stronger limited slip) and VSC OFF (open differentials).

    VSC will come back on if you are doing crazy stuff and are close to spinning out... however.

    Thats exactly what I am complaining about. No user error there except forgetting to turn the damn Traction control OFF. Same thing on Nissan, if it is slippery and there is hill climb regular traction control will make truck die mid way, and what you end up with, is foot to the floor and engine idling. Which begs the question why even have that ON by default, since it does not help. :notsure:
    I know you guys admire that system but I dont see any benefit to it. ALSD is just mimicking Limited Slipp. So I rather have real deal.

    Yup. BlueT has it pinned. you just whack the gas for momentum up a hill.. and it starts kickin in and you lose momentum. and ya maybe on a rainy day when the roads a little slick it will help, but picture being in 2" of sluch on top of a sheet of ice (which was every road in my town yesterday from 5PM - 6AM).. you need momentum to go through this.. no doubt about it.. i had a grand am GT when i was 18(for 6 months and had to get back in a truck).. that thing went better in this garbage than my truck w. traction control on...

    i dont 'blame it' for getting stuck, its not hard to turn the knob to 4wd.. i knew you could turn it on and off but dint know the difference between LSD and VSC.. but now i do thanks to TW.. thats what this site is for right? so we can all collaborate and learn things we dont know about our trucks?
