Long story short, my 2020 TRD Pro is totaled and gone but I may be able to pick up a decent 1st gen 2000 SR5 PreRunner, just need to work out a reasonable deal with the owner. It is an extra cab, 121K miles, mostly driven by an old lady, garage kept and completely bone stock. I want to get it for the time being, put a few $$ into it and get the 2022 TRD Pro in March'ish or shop till I find a the right deal without all the crazy markup and sell the 1st gen. But I know when/if I get the 1st gen I will order at the min new wheels, tires and suspension at the least. It will be nice to at least not have a truck payment for 2 months, will try and strike a deal in the next day or so. Previous to this I had a 2nd gen DCLB PreRunner that I modded out just to my liking but the 3rd gen is where it's at in my opinion. The other part of me says pass up the 1st gen and just focus on the 2022, whenever that may be so that I can save up money for those mods. Looks like this except with steel wheels and no running boards

If you have anything else you can drive as a DD until March or so I don’t think I’d invest in the 1st gen especially with the inflated cost of the market right now.

With that being said, if you have the funds and specifically wanted a 1st gen, that would be a phenomenal candidate to buy as it sounds like an untouched gem. Almost hard to pass up if the price is right.

Either way, sorry to hear about your 2020 being totaled and I hope all is well!

I do have another DD, Lexus IS, but hard to fit fishing gear and trips to Lowes etc. You are correct, only if she is NOT expecting an arm and leg as I know I can get my money back plus some when it's time to jump back into a 3rd gen

Don't understand why you would mod a nice stock 1st GEN that you are only going to have a couple months.
If you have something else to drive for a couple months, why not try to accumulate as much $ as possible to go towards the new PRO, as opposed to throwing $$ into the 1st GEN that you will most likely not get back.

Cause I have the modding bug in me - lol. True, I would hate to throw money into it unless it is needed such as repairs, but it appears solid upon initial inspection. Really need to drive it, get a firm price and go from there. I have never had a vehicle I did NOT mod, so the temptation is there. Maybe just throw some elbow grease and clean it up to my liking such as attention to the paint.

There's a real market out there for stock 1st Gens, especially in good shape and low mileage. I've been offered $20k for my '96 with 415,000 miles on it.

Yea, I'd be bungee cording all kindsa shit rather than buying a temp truck, lol.

But hey, if you can swing it then resell it? Sounds like a good way to make a buck. I've given thought to flipping cars, especially in this market.

Yea, that's why it's a fleeting thought for me. My yard would look like a Jeff Foxworthy redneck joke after a year of "flipping".

The 2020 was supposed to be my forever truck, but sh!t happens. I honestly gave up for a little bit of even replacing it

I flipped cars for a couple of years until a few years ago.
I stopped when I decided to complete my Bachelor degree doing school at night and weekends.

My rule was simple, only buy cars that I would not mind keeping for myself.

    Good cash money!

Any Toyota truck was easy to sell here in Los Angeles. You have everyone ready to buy with cash on hand. From folks who work construction to your Hawaii folks ready to buy and ship back home just with some videos and pics. I would not jack up prices either. Just quick cash and give the new owner a good deal.

That would be nice in that market, LA, really miss going there.

Hopefully the lady selling the 1st gen only wants what "book value" is and isn't researching stuff on the net. I would buy the 1st gen and clean it up a bit and sell it for a profit after you get settled in finding a good deal on your next "forever truck".
