The last description of the Rivian's size was on a YouTube video, they said smaller than a Full Sized but larger than the Mid Sized.

Compared to a DCSB the Rivian is about 5" longer, 6" wider and up to 9" taller depending on air suspension settings.

Sheesh. The choices are black and blue, very rare, med rare, medium, medium well, well, and extra well.

I think a better analogy would be or if we could get a Tacoma with a cab in between the double cab and access cab, and 6” longer bed

Does anyone know why they only got 2% regen during the descent?

Probably batteries were hot and the truck didn’t want to add more heat into them via the “regen” charging .
Regen is just another word for charging your batteries at some power rate (watts) . When you charge EVs fast or at a high rate (like a 100kw supercharger or “regen breaks” at many kw) it makes the batteries heat up faster. So possibly rivian built that fail safe into the Regen .
Or maybe the settings were not optimized or maybe Rivian sucks vs other EV makers at key parameters like battery conditioning, heat management and efficiency …

when I put my model 3 in “track mode” the battery radiator/ coolant kicks on constantly and I also turn off “regen” to avoid any additional heat going into batteries

As time goes on and more ppl learn the ways of the ev, these concepts of heat , efficiency will be more understood by all . At that point they will see why there is only one real option for EVs , Tesla. Everyone else is making nice little project cars for practice. Practice makes perfect, so others will catch up soon I hope.

Yeah, that makes sense. Our plug-in Prius will similarly kick on the ICE and stop charging if you run it down a big steep hill.

Yeah. Hot not good always. Tesla does a little better job with “thermal management” than the others but it’s not a night and day difference. With 20 min of hard beating on a track the model 3s radiator/heat pump can’t keep up with the hot battery. It’s a fact. I won’t lie to you guys. You guys are cool. But , that’s not very common (track day , or heavy towing).

Don’t let these issues make u think “well it will be the same headache as a gas car , just a new type of head ache.” No.
let me tell you why (and I won’t mention obvious shit like no gas / oil / spark plugs or smogg….)

    - switching on/off our rear E locker doesn’t happen always as requested, and the POS takes time to engage. Quad motor ev = no differential, no re gear needed , no lockers or any mechanical traction aid. It’s always ready to be “locked” or not .
    - switching transfer case into 4Low or even 4high isn’t always a sure thing. Can get stuck in one or the other which is annoying when needed or if it leaves you stranded.
    - running 35” tires and driving on the highway or off road in sand / steep hills is super annoying shifting between gears. Gets your auto trans hot as you shift from 2/3 every 10 seconds when beating in dirt. Also going up steep hills = rape for engine and transmission . Even with costly re gear ( not needed with ev) this still wears your mechanical monsters seals , gears , fluids.
-when you’re crawling you will not accidentally stall your motor because you hit the brakes too hard (or bounced off a rock ) and now came to a complete stop in first gear with a manual (couldn’t press the clutch in in time). in the EV with the instant torque you can 1 foot drive over difficult obstacles without cooking the torque converter or having to play around with the clutch and getting stressed out.
    - when off roading , that TRD shitty fake sounding flomaster exhaust sound ruins the ambience when you’re out in the desert or out in the mountains and just want to relax and enjoy nature. Nobody wants to hear that dumb ass drone all up and down the trails . shut the f* up. Ev silent , Just like a herd of elephants silently moving through the forest. Such power but no sound.

I doubt Toyota has the EV tech that can compete. Have yet to see a Toyota BEV with the range/performance that can stand to Tesla, Ford, GM, VAG.

The only thing that can save Toyota in the EV market is if they can get an electric truck out before everybody else. But that doesn’t sound even slightly possible at the moment.

No EV tech to compete? Toyota has had EV's before Musk had his prototype roadster. What's the rush? Proper R and D. While the American companies rush to get their trucks out Toyota wants to do it right. I'd rather have a proper engineered EV truck than a rushed one. Lets see how long before the American trucks get recalled because they wanted to do it quick. Toyota is in a lot of markets in the world. They can't afford to rush things.

Which Toyota EV is there? Full EV. Hybrids don’t count. If there is I want to buy one.

The 2010 RAV4 EV was a project with Tesla. I think the CHR/Lexus UX is available as a EV in foreign markets but the range is mediocre compared to what’s on the market.

Toyota has had plenty of time to develop their EV tech. They dropped the ball and put their money on hydrogen and hybrids. They are finally playing catch up now. I understand Toyota will probably want to do an in-house battery unlike GM/Hyundai going with LG, but that takes time. The competition is already leagues ahead of Toyota assuming they are still using pre-2010 battery technology

Hybrids are EV's. Have always been. Toyota is building a battery plant in the USA which looks like Panasonic. Panasonic has been used in Toyota's for years as their main battery supplier. I believe most Toyotas use Panasonic starter batteries to this day. So to me 2025 isn't a long way away. I'd want it right, not quick. Who cares what others are doing. When Toyota gets going they and I believe the Germans will dominate the EV market along with hyundai.
