Well I may not wait for the TacomaEV, I have to get the 2022 Taco as soon as its supply issues are resolved or at least eased....

My biggest concern is how much my 2022 Taco sell in 2024 or 2026 when the TacoEV will have its initial bugs fixed...

Even an EV i wouldn't buy first year. I never bought a first generation of any vehicle.

    I guess there’s a misunderstanding. When I said EV I meant battery electric vehicle(BEV).

We currently can only put so much power into a battery before it’s own weight reduces its range. With a hybrid you get rid of that issue as long as you keep adding gas.

I want to see how Toyota combats this issue. If they rely on Panasonic they will come out with an average product(Tesla batteries were Panasonic supplied up til recently). If all that’s holding them up is the development of solid state batteries, then they have something good planned. But with how fast the EV market is moving what we think is advanced today may be outdated next year. Last I heard there is a few start ups state side that are developing solid state battery tech. We will see.

I think Panasonic makes a terrible Lead acid cell battery. Hopefully this isn't the case in the EV battery game. I believe Tesla will be using Panasonics next gen EV battery. So maybe they jumped some hurdles. Time will tell. Then Solid State batteries are expected by 2030.

Porsche just set a record for a cross country trip NY to LA - total charge time took less than 2 hours 27 minutes.

    - total charge time, that is…

I know - for some, this will still be an outrageously long time when they could be driving their ICE vehicle.*

*BTW - If the ICE vehicle has a 350 mile range and if you spend 10 minutes per fill-up, you are already looking at 1 hr 20 min total refuel time.

That additional hour refueling, which if you are sleeping / peeing / eating and talking the opportunity to sight see (like a normal human) would be more than negated.

This hour would enable a cost savings of of easily $300+ depending on the fuel price…

Account for pollution and wear & tear on the engine and the ICE cost disadvantage increases.

** I won’t mention the fact that the ICE diver might not even be able to make the trip as his risk of having his ICE vehicle catch on fire is greater than that for the EV.

Yeah, but did they do the Red Ball Garage to the Portofino Hotel in less than 25 hours and 38 minutes?

I know there are problems to sort out with generating power, charging EVs and batteries and disposal, but I want to explain the reality of internal combustion engines (ICE) and the effect they have on all of us.

Did you know that an ICE can ingest and heat huge amounts of air good for breathing. Depending on it's load, an ICE can ingest its displacement every 2 revolutions. Now when you are running down the highway at 65 mph and ~2,500 rpm, your engine may be ingesting ~1,000 times it's displacement every minute, or more for a turbocharged ICE.
For an average pickup, you might be consuming 40,000 gallons of breathing air for every 1 gallon of fuel you consume. (4.0 V6 is about 1 gallon)

The other thing about ICE is they are usually only 30% efficient, meaning you get 30% of work (propulsion) out of a gallon of fuel, and the rest, 70%, goes off in heat. We drive around furnaces

If you can charge EVs from a clean power source, like hydro power, Hoover dam, Niagara Falls, wind turbines, wave generators, it can make a huge reduction in heat emissions.

About 5 years ago, there were around 1 billion vehicles registered for road use around the world, running nearly everyday. Now add in all the planes, boats, container ships, lawn mowers, construction vehicles, powersports, race vehicles, generators...and actual furnaces. We are heating the earth up and contributing to increases in forest fires and droughts.

The 2022 Hybrid Tundra gets 2 MPG better than it’s gas version. What’s the freakin’ point?

They’ll have to pull my dead body from under my Tacoma to get me to sell/trade/replace it! Don’t tell my wife.

EVs are hyped garbage. I used to be in the industry. "Green renewables" aren't.

More power with less GHG for a better towing experience. Not to reduce fuel consumption.

Agreed. More power is always a plus when adding armor, bumpers, cap or bed rack, winch, roof accessories, etc!!!

Taking a closer look at the R1S after seeing an R1T on the street over the weekend. It's not dirt cheap but it hits a lot of the right marks for me. The looks were a bit unusual at first in photos but in person I thought it came off really sharp.

I highly recommend this video. When comparing a BEV to an ICE in order to compare apples to apples you'd have to use similar vehicles. When it comes to BEVs its all about the efficiency of the electric motor.

Definitely a good video. I think another fun/useful comparison would be prius vs tesla 3 in terms of where the breakeven point is on the higher priced 3.

Car and Driver Rivian review if you haven’t seen it…I didn’t realize it weighed 7700 pounds. I had a 1996 Land cruiser slide backwards on a hill, sliding on shale despite good rubber. Scared the hell out of me bc I was literally skating backwards. That only weighed 5k. I personally wouldn’t plan on off-roading w a 7700 pound vehicle, if the terrain had significant climbs or descents . Good rubber is important but there are limits to what some surfaces will hold. Interesting they got 35 mpge towing.
