It's not the end of the world for me, happy to wait if it means I get what I want. My girlfriend and I share a car so it's not like I'm without transport in the meantime and I don't need it for work. Will just make weekends a lot easier/more fun when it does arrive. If it comes by summertime and camping season I'm fine with it!

I would've thought that would make it sell quicker almost. Manual's are hard to find these days!

not when its a small town of farmers. hard enough to sell at Tacoma but at a 5' box and manual even harder. Maybe if the manual came in a sr5 but it only comes in as a premium. out there its tundras and f350 diesels

Ive got a '22 DCSB 6M in Army Green arriving around the end of the month. I used to have a '17 DCLB that I loved so I'm excited to get back into a tacoma, and a manual at that.

I just received a new ‘22 white Tacoma offroad premium short box double cab auto on loan here near you in BC until my ‘22 Tacoma Pro manual arrives in a few months. Would you be interested in this loaner in a few months? It’ll only have a few thousand km on it and it’ll otherwise be as new. Have had a Pro on order for a year now. Still nothing. :( This OR Prem Auto is really nice to drive (except on freeway - trans searching gears annoying) and has a higher stance than I expected. It’s growing on me. I might keep it and bolt some Pro parts to it! Lol. Btw, my wait for this loaner was only 3 weeks.

this is not true. This is likely because your dealer is too small and did not get offered any Pro allocations by Toyota. You need to goto a larger volume dealer and reorder. Although I suspect all allocations for 22 pros are likely spoken for long ago, you might luck out and get a cancellation come avail last minute on a customer that fails financing.

Just got news today that next round of Tacomas for Canada will be delivered in March (allocations now) as there was another chip supply chain delay. Pro models should be among the ones in March for orders made mid last year. Allocations for dealers supposedly coming in next couple days.

I have a question for you all if anybody is experienced with 3rd gen Tacomas equipped the auto and crawl control /MTS vs a manual trans (both w rear lockers) when using them for heavy real off roading and mud/rock/sand crawling. Which is the better transmission and system for this use for an experienced capable stick driver? I’ve driven both of these on the road brand new recently both transmissions are ok. I preferred the manual though because the auto struggled on the freeway searching for gears constantly which was annoying. Seating position is better in the auto though because no clutch you can position the seat much farther back. Any experienced off-roaders thoughts on this? Thx.

Where did you hear this from? My salesman's lips are sealed. It's almost impossible to get any kind of information. I just put in an order Jan 2022 for a TRD offroad, and I'm displeased because while they didn't out right say they weren't doing factory orders, they treated my transaction like it was. For example, putting my build through the toyota website and through to them, using the phrase "get your order in," etc. They definitely weren't forthcoming with how trucks are obtained these days. I found this out after the fact through the great information on this website.

I’m connected a bit further up the food chain than the sales team. ;)
Many dealers and salesmen operate as you have just described. They do it because they want your sale and to lock in your deposit because it positively effects their monthly ‘orders’ for their quotas and mgmt targets etc.
The way it really works is that the dealers receive what are called allocations which are the # of specific make and models they will be offered from Toyota on any given month. Once you leave a deposit and give your sales person your ‘order’ you are put on a list of customers who can receive one of those allocations when and if they are given by Toyota to your dealer. If your dealer is small or low volume they will get less or no allocations on rare vehicles like a Tacoma pro for example. Which means the only way to get one is to leave a deposit at a larger more prominent dealer early. Many smaller dealers sadly try to pull bait and switches because of this by saying they can get you a specific model/load etc which they cannot and then try to move you to a lower or different model after the fact, just to get your business rather than you leaving for another dealer. The most sure way to get the new vehicle you want for the best price is to shop several dealers simultaneously and deal directly with the head sales manager. Once you get an allocation and conformed build/delivery date at a couple dealers, see which one needs the sale the most to meet their monthly targets as they will possibly discount or throw in accessories to keep you from walking. With all the vehicle shortages and super high demand though, it’s a sellers market. They can do what they want. There’s more customers than new vehicles at the moment. :( Good luck.

Thanks for this explanation. When the dealerships get the allocation, does Toyota say, "Hey X Dealership, I'm going to allocate a TRD Sport premium. What colour do you need based on orders waiting?" Or is it more like everything is already picked and there isn't even a choice in colour?

This is identical to mine. Except I bought it. I ordered it about 6 months ago and it came a few days ago. In BC. Maybe a got lucky but the gear hunting seems no different to any automatic transmission that I’ve driven. And so far I’m not bothered by it at all. It responds to the pedal being depressed. I am used to driving really shitty cars though. I’m really happy with it so far. But I’m debating getting it ceramic coated, I’m not really sure. I want to offroad with it and have a lot of adventures. I know it’s going to get scratched up a bit. But I want to protect it. Ideally I’d wrap it. But that’s going to cost 4-7 k in my area and I just dont want to spend that. And I’m not sure about fluid filming it in the summer or not. And also I was considering getting the wheels either plasti dipped by myself or getting them powder coated.

Depends on what Toyota has available. When more inventory being made there’s more options and leeway avail for the dealer requests when taking allocations/orders. Right now though, the dealers are taking whatever limited inventory they can get their hands on, which means the customer usually has to take what’s offered and avail rather than specific requests like colour. Etc. Its the worst time to buy a new car in the last 40 years if you are a customer.

Are you referring to March as the next allocation month now for trucks in Canada due to delays or March being the month for arrivals to dealers? As of 2 weeks ago my TRD pro had an eta of March 2nd-12th. Hoping it doesn’t change as the sales manager said they tend to publish the ETAs conservatively for southern Ontario..

I’m very surprised you already have a confirmed allocation and delivery date for a Pro. Looks like Ontario gets them possibly before BC. ?
And by March I mean delivery date. Allocations to dealers on first Pros in Canada are to happen this week. That’s great you already have a known delivery date! What colour are you getting? I love the electric lime but just couldn’t do it. Lol. #MGM

As of about 3-4 weeks ago the status has been “in production” and I have had a VTN but not sure about the VIN yet (should call my dealer and find out). It’s a white truck which was my 3rd choice after grey and black but it’s a unicorn 6MT so I had to jump on it! Lime green looks great on the brochures and Toyota build link but I just couldn’t commit to that colour long term…

Everyone at the dealership gave me a weird look and laughed for also requesting a 6MT Pro, but the mechanics in the back gave me a huge thumbs up, so I think I made the correct choice. ;) I’m not going to bad talk this gorgeous 6AT OR Prem I have now though, as it’s a great driver, and I’ll gladly keep it with no complaints if the Pro never materializes.
