It only took about an hour and a half to weld em on though

 

Boss man farmed some lathe work out, he told me he was going to get 1 piece so I could drill the holes in it and he can take it for a test fit. There’s 5 or 6 of these. Somehow they gouged the most important part of it, the bore

*when doing work for new customers, make sure the 1st sample is perfect

 

This one ain’t buffing out. I set it up, indicated it, went to drill it and the O.D. Is a touch small. It measures 7.094”, it’s supposed to be 7.870”. We sent them 8.375” material

 

Tell ‘em it expands when it warms up. It’ll leak of course but our Toyota experience tells us the answer is “It’s Normal”.

 

Ummm…. that's a little more than a 'touch' small!

 

I assume they misread the print and were shooting for 7.087" instead of 7.870", I get it, mistakes happen. Been there done that!!!


My boss is in a meeting with the company this part is for, I sent him pics. He won't be happy when he leaves that meeting. We made these parts once to the print they gave us, the print was wrong and they didn't fit so they've been screaming about these parts. I just hope they haven't turned the remaining ones yet.

 

Sounds like you just really need to get Gimpy back in on the lathe!

 

Mistakes happen, sure. What that really tells me is that they have no QA process. The machinist misread the print, fair enough. Who checked the work before shipping it?

 

We do! He actually came in this morning. He had slippers on and was having trouble walking. Said he is getting a little better but his feet are still messed up. He came by to get some info off of his computer so he could do his taxes.

Said he has blisters on his toes and the bottom of his feet burn like a bad sunburn. I ask what it is, he said it has 3 names (his internet research) and he couldn't pronounce them but he's taking ibuprofen and they are healing

 

You'd think when they turned over an inch off the O.D. they would have checked the dimension again

I'm not blaming anyone, I make my share of mistakes just like we all do.

 

Get him a chair to sit at?

 

He stands 90% of the time cause he runs the lathe mostly. Cycle time usually isn't that long on it.

 

A couple days - sure be tough.
A week - pushing it.
+ Week - go see a Doctor...

I really hope this guy can come back to work.

Foot problems are bad news, I worked with a fellow who had an ingrown toenail on his big toe, when he finally went to the doctor it ended up with a hospital stay and an amputated big toe. He said if he had delayed another day the infection would have progressed so far they would have had to start cutting into his foot.

 

Yeah feet are likes eyes, you only get one set, got to take care of them

This is week 7, he said when he went to the doctor December 29th he was already writing a prescription and he hadn't even looked at it yet. He has not been back to a doctor and he stopped taking what they gave him cause it made him sick.

 

I know you know this but ibuprofen doesn't do anything to heal anything.

Dude needs some antibiotics.

 

Also, I'm REALLY starting to despise Excel.

Feet aren't any better but he doesn't have a headache
