I turned on my truck coming back from lunch and my maint req light blinked... then blinked again. AM I IN TROUBLE?!

    Seriously though... no worries?

It's 37 right now, which is one of the coldest days we've had. I let my truck idle for 8-10 seconds before throwing in gear if that matters.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
It means you should read the manual............or search.............it's optional.

It blinks at you when you reach 4500 miles since it was reset last (last oil change).

It'll stay on constant if you get to 5,000 miles.

Time to do an oil change!! Check your owners manual, it'll tell you how to reset it - after you change your oil. ;)

Read the owner's manual cover to cover...it's in your glove box. The maint req'd light means you need an oil change. If your check engine light comes on then you can start worrying.

It blinks at 4500 miles for a few times upon startup (500 mile advance warning). Then at 5000 miles, it will stay on all the time.

happend to me last week. if u dont service ur truck at the dealer, sometimes they forget to reset it after an oil change. this is what i did and it worked. :

"1) Turn the ignition key to the "OFF" position with the odometer reading shown."

"2) Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position while holding down the trip meter reset knob."

"Hold the knob for at least 5 seconds. The odometer indicates "000000" and the light goes off."

"If the system fails to reset, the light will continue flashing."

Don't be a dick. I've changed my oil every time. I never recalled the light blinking. It was a simple question.

See, copy and paste doesn't give you all the details. Here's some info not in there:

First, you do not need to turn the ignition key to "OFF" with the odometer reading shown. You only need the odo reading shown when you turn the ignition to "ON." Your odometer/trip meter works without a key in the ignition. So you can cycling through them until it shows the odo, then turn the ignition on. It cracks me up to see the service advisers put the key in at the dealerships in order to read the odometer.:D No keys necessary.

Second (and I've never heard from anyone to see if this has actually been proven true), each dash that flashes during the reset process represents 1,000 miles. So, theoretically, letting go of the trip reset button after 3 dashes should set it to come on again at 3,000 miles. I'd really like to know whether this is true or not.
