Habit from working at a rental car agency and I honestly enjoy reversing, just like I enjoy driving manual - if you can do it, you're that much more valuable.

It's a requirement for military vehicle, so now it's habit for me. Also all of the above mentioned reasaons (safer exiting, easier, etc)

Couple of reasons I have not seen mentioned.

    1. When reversing, your brakes will automatically adjust.

    2. I love it when my passengers say "You're not getting into that spot". I just grin and say "Oh yea? Watch me". Plus, the ladies love a man that knows how to drive well. Backing into parking spots showcases this.

Well i used to because i only had a front end replacement, but now i have both

And when i park straight in its always f*&$ing crooked, back in and its straight.

If the motorcycles in the back, i always back in, i dont like people having access to my stuff.

Overhang: when the parking spot does not have a wall or other vehicle behind it, the bed overhang can hang way back and the front wont stick out in the isle as much.

Front splitter (in my car): In a car with a low front end, the splitter will hit those concrete things, but backing it in makes it a little easier to get all the way in without risking the splitter.

Frost covered windows/mirrors: A lot easier to see forward in the mornings than backward.

Like most others, safety: A lot easier to get onto the somewhat busy street I live on in the morning if I just have to pull out compared to backing across 2 lanes, stopping, then moving forward.

I am usually way more interested in leaving work, compared to getting there. I'll spend the time in the morning so I can hit the road at night.

I have had other people ask me why I back in all the time though, so this isnt the first time the question has been posed.

I back into my space because my space is under a tree. If I pulled in forward, I would get bird shit all over my windshield. Instead it all goes in my bed.

Also, it's easier to leave the space. :D

Who gets to decide how to park? Which side is the front and whitch side is the back
    PHP:
Way back when cars were invented. There were no parking spots at first. Then one day some one decided to mark a space on th ground so stupid driver could see were to park. When he was about to park in a parking spot for the first time but he didn't know how. Then a very cool truck pulled up and backed in a spot. That is when people started backing in

Regardless of the way you park. Just don't park crooked.

Damn, Now that I'm reading this, I back in almost everytime. I don't even give it a second thought anymore, I've been doing it for so many years. Just seems easier especially with DCLB. I've always had bigger trucks than this one, so it's always been the easier option.

I've been backing into spots as a habit from my last job. I was a Valet for over 10 years.

Plus the DCLB is really long especially compared to the cars I've owned and still have. I've only had Civics, Celicas, a compact wagon and motorcycles. I still have a hard time trying to go head first into many stalls, the turning radius is a pain. It's so much easier just backing into spots. And as many have mentioned it's safer when you have to leave. But I think it just makes you look so much cooler than the others who don't have the skills to back up into a spot.

A couple of people mentioned that in China and Hong Kong about 99% percent of the people back into spots. In the Philippines it's about 50/50 but there are some garages that make it mandatory to back in. When I visited Singapore probably 99.9999% of the parking spaces I saw people backed in and most of the cars were super clean and maintained regardless of make/model/year.
