Thanks for the post and pics. I am getting ready to do this but puzzled as to why the fender flare needs to be removed. I have an '03 3.4l V6 and it doesn't seem to be an issue. Am I missing something? Or are we talking about the section up inside the wheel well?
    Thanks KG

no need to remove the fender flare at all, there is no interference with anything, even the gas door

if you can lift the bed off it's that much easier to have working space. I needed to do this to fix the cross member for inspection and was able to remove the canister from the bracket as it was rusted too badly to take the bracket off (bolt heads almost gone)

From what I can see there isn't a rust or corrosion issue. There's a previous post that mentions to prop up one side of the bed with 2x4s for easier access. I was going to try that because I'll be doing this by myself. Hope it works.
    Thanks KG

that works, my uncle had a engine crane and we pulled it off. I liked the ability to stand in the middle to work, but again mine is rusted

I finished this in 2 1/2 hours today thanks to this thread. The shop wanted $800. I found the toyota part online for $230. Following the advice of a previous post, I removed the 3 bolts on the driver's side of the bed and loosened the three on the other side. I then disconnected tail lights and removed the collar around the gas cap. I could lift the bed enough (by myself) on driver's side to slide a short 4x4, and then a 2x4 on top of it, in the wheel well area in between bed and frame. That gave me 6" of lift and all the room I needed to work with. Easy from there.

Any chance of some photos of this 2x4 bed lift?
I hate to think of taking the bed completely off!
