I wonder if they will be able to update Tacomas with stock remote start to work with remote start and drive-off.

I just don’t understand Toyota shutting the engine off if any door is open. Whatever their reasoning is… If no key fob is detected, shut off engine as soon as someone try to open the door? My coworker has a Chevy with push start and she can just get in and drive after using remote start.

Hopefully. It seems like a simple software update so it should be easy enough to do if they’re gracious enough to allow it for older vehicles.

There goes everyone's claim here its a security feature. At least Toyota is admitting its a shit design and not needed. I don't hold out any hope of that changing for my 19 though since it wasn't a factory option. :argue:

Exactly. It was simply poor coding on Toyota's part. If it's designed to check for the key before starting the vehicle, what's the issue with implementing a line of code to check if the fob is in the vehicle when the brake is pressed in? BOOM! Pay me for intellectual property.

Yup, it's really simple. Door opens, brake is pressed or shifter leaves park without the key detected it dies. The computer already has sensors for all of this so no additional hardware is needed to make it just as safe. If the key is detected you're good to go and the engine doesn't shutoff.

What wear? On the starter? It's not going to care.
