Haven't ventured out myself this year. How thick is the ice? Last year Minnetonka was almost 40" in some spots

That was Tonka.. Wayzata area. I went as far as Spirit Island and turned back. You probably know from the pics.. I was worried that the sheriff might give me a ticket for going to fast.. There were so many ice houses, trucks, snowmobiles, fat tire bikes and people out on the ice that I was amazed. Unsure how thick the ice was but I know with the recent cold temps, even the bubblers were hardly effective in keeping the water from freezing around the permanent dock structures.

Was the first time I was out on the ice this year.

See, I didn’t even think about the risk to the driver. I’ve been on frozen lakes ice fishing, but have never driven any vehicles on one. I gather it would be variable depending on how thick the ice was at the point that it started to break, but I wonder if the whole truck would just break through at once, or if it would go through in sections and you would have time to jump out. Hopefully one of those things I never need to find out first hand.

My quest to find snow for Christmas was a rousing success.

Yeah figured this recent cold snap helped a bunch. Can’t imagine it was at normal thickness in January considering how mild winter has been this year

someone posted this in a Southern Ontario off road group page. They're looking for a recovery. Anybody near these GPS coordinates? 45.242443,-74.597347272835774_1377854992649286_6465883547793812611_n.jpg

It isn't the 8" of snow that impedes travel in Ottawa right now though.
