Got a wheelers aal 1.5 and ordered 5100’s with it. To my disappointment they are the same length as stock. Now, this could’ve been caused by my ignorance as I saw different part numbers but the rep at wheelers assured me this was for 0-1 inch lift. I just figured they’d be 1 inch longer than stock

Should I just put stock ones back on and see if I can send the 5100s back?

0-1 inch could very well use the same length shock

To me, it doesn’t seem like it was worth me buying them.

The 5100s have a bit under an inch of extra suspension travel over the stock shocks. They are also much larger and dampen the rear axle movement far better.

I would guess it has to do with valving inside. Cheaper than making 2 different bodies.

    This is just a guess.

5100’s are definitely a step up from stock. They do make 2 versions..
The one you have, and a second version. That 5100 has longer travel and is for trucks with up to 4” inch lift in rear. (Pretty sure its 4”, maybe double check..)

The Bilstein 5100 rear shock will be the same length as OE. The difference is in the travel and it compensates for the rear lift. My OE shocks handle just fine with my 1.5" AAL but I will upgrade the rears to 5100's for better travel and quality.

The AAL is for added payload capacity.

If you wanted travel/lift, you would've opted for a new leaf pack.

With that said, keep the 5100s as they're an upgrade from stock and will exceed your needs.

The AAL provides 1.5" of lift. It also does not increase payload capacity. It merely helps with how it handles said payload.

    Handle, got it.

But you got the jest; an AAL helps to support a heavier load and prevent sagging.

It's not intended to act as a lift; that's just cause and effect. Don't add a payload, and yes an AAL will raise the rear end.

I believe the 5160 are around an inch longer than 5100's and 5125's are .3 longer thane 5160's if that helps

This is why I didn’t get new shocks with my AAL. Nothing wrong with buying 5100s for the valving, if that’s worth the extra money to you (or if your stock shocks are worn out). But the extended length of the shocks is what matters for more travel/flex because you are going to hit your bump stops before the 5100s compress that extra <inch compared to stock anyway. To ditch my stock shocks (which were still virtually new - I only had like 7K on them at the time I installed my AAL) for what the rear 5100s give you, just wasn’t worth it to me. My truck rides great with the stock shocks and I have no issues with them and my AAL. Now in about 50K or 60K more miles, when it’s time to replace my stock shocks becasue they are getting worn out, then I may get 5100s as a replacement.

I've got the 1" block in the rear, and also kept the oem Off Road shocks. I don't carry weight in the rear, so it was a no brainer for me to keep it oem. But I am glad I have the extra 2" up front with the 5100s.
