I’ll be honest, if I’m just putting around running errands and don’t plan on getting on the highway, I will occasionally just go out in a tshirt, jeans and vans (gloves and helmet are a given). It’s honestly a rare occasion that I dress down that far but I usually at least wear long sleeves.

Depending how much you're willing to spend...

I love my speed and strength oakland jeans, picked em up on a CycleGear sale for $100/pair, they come with an abrasion/heat resistant liner and lvl 1 knee armor but no hip pockets. If you wanna spend more, my Rokker jeans came with no armor but have knee and hip pockets...but those were fairly pricey.

My favorite moto "boot" that's casual is the Dainese Persepolis Air that I wear pretty much every weekday since I commute to work on the bike. When it's rainy, I switch to the Dainese Street Rocker or the TCX Dartwoods, both of which are comfortable and waterproof. I don't do any adv/dirt riding so I don't worry about getting em dirty/scuffed up.

I might be a weird one, but I don't have any luggage on my bike aside from a small Held Tenda tailbag that is really only there for looks and carrying a water bottle/sports drink on my longer rides on weekends, as well as a microfiber and a small tire pressure gauge. Which I honestly may remove for regular riding soon, since I never need those items during the week.

When I do have clothes or other stuff to carry, I use an Ogio backpack. I know some guys, my friends included, hate having anything on their back while riding but I honestly don't mind it. I think it works as a substitute for seatbelts to make me feel more secure lol.

Specifically quick rides around town (no highway obviously) I have no problem wearing my work pants and work boots rather than slide rated riding gear.

I ride to the grocery store, bank, work, ranch, shop, etc all summer long, battery on the truck dies most summers haha, at the end of the day, if I’m being honest, I think about ATGATT more like ATGOTH (on the highway).

Probs will get flamed for it, but I feel like the “I wear a full track suit on the quarter mile ride to run an errand” crowd are somewhat like the “my day starts at 4:00 am when I do my 2 hour HIIT workout” crowd in that maybe they’re not mentioning the occasions where they go out without some of that protection. Maybe it’s just me, but in my neck of the woods I’m always the most geared up guy on the road and rarely even see a helmet if at all ha.

Around town I'm along the same lines as @GHOST SHIP . I always wear my gloves and helmet, I'll try to wear my street jacket (my favorite right now is an alpinestars domino tech hoody that I replaced the armor with full d30 shoulders, elbows, and back, actually blends in nicely off the bike https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/alpinestars-domino-tech-hoody?sku_id=1591155), and almost always long pants, aside from that one time on the small bike in shorts, tank top, and my safety birkenstocks...

If I'm going on a highway though I'll have my touring jacket (an older A-stars thing) on, it doesn't have a hood and does better in the wind, plus full D30 and a pair of klim outrider pants w/ knee and hip D30. The pants from the outside basically look like a pair of carharts and have outside-removeable knee armor that's easy to velcro in and out if you're going to be off the bike for a while. Highly reccomend these pants to be ADV without looking TOOOOO ADV

I have a pair of street-ier looking TCX shoes, I forget the name, they're alright. I wear leather boots to work, so I feel good in those riding. If it's around town half the time I just wear my sambas.. they're kangaroo leather and even though they don't provide any ankle support or protection at all they'd do OK in certain slide scenarios. If I'm offroad I have a pair of TCX Drifter boots that I got a demo pair of for a steal a few years back. They have a pretty articulated heel and feel nice.

It only took me one slow speed slide about 15 years ago to decide to wear gear. It wasn’t terrible, didn’t break anything but bare skin and face on the pavement is uncomfortable for weeks afterwards. My gear takes all of an extra couple minutes per ride to wear and is totally worth it if needed.

Going along with that... always full face with a visor, glasses, or goggles. I'm never doing a 3/4 or half helmet

Ive ridden without gloves once or twice. It had the same effect as riding without a jacket. Just feel so unprotected. Even wearing a hoodie had me feeling like something was between me and the road.

I tried to ride without a helmet in Florida. Got to 30mph, and had to stop and put the helmet on. I did not like that at all. I guess I am ok with just wearing jeans, but boots/some sort of jacket/gloves and helmet are a must.

I rode once around the block in a tee, gym shorts, and flip flops after a chain clean/lube

As soon as I got around the first corner, I was hyperaware of just how naked I felt. Never done it since.

Overpriced. Sportsters are a dime a dozen and can be had in better shape with less miles for $3k-$3.5k. I bet if you were to go look at that one in person you will be disappointed. Zooming in on the pictures shows that it has a lot of nicks, scratches and grime.

I’ve dumped my dual sports over the years around town and it hurts for a long time. But I’m more worried about impact around town and sliding on the highway. Knocked the wind out of myself pretty good back in the teenage days with no gear and rarely a helmet. Nowadays I’m good with heavy duty work attire for around town and more slide resistant stuff on the highway.

EDIT: I wear an Arai XD4 with no visor (and ballistic sunglasses in the day time underneath) to protect the noggin. To me full face or nothing at all make more sense than some of the skull caps I see the HD guys out in Cali wearing when I lived there. Looked like it would just choke them out or give another thing to crank their neck weird in a wreck to me.

I keep hearing that from people around the country. The CA tax would price that same sporty at closer to $7-8k…. And it would sell quick.

There's also a BMW 1200C for sale locally that caught my eye, "famous" for not really selling well and being a Bond bike in Tomorrow Never Dies.

I’m a bit of a BMW fanboy when it comes to their bikes and the 1200c is actually supposed to ride ok… but I’d never be able to get past those looks

It's one of those I'd buy just because of what it is. Something kinda weird and different that would probably lead to interesting conversations while out riding.

IMHO, that bike is ugly. Not even the design, but the color too
