That sounds workable - I hope they honor that.

... and that's part of the dilemma now, isn't it? Market Adjustments, mandatory add-ons with their own mark ups, etc - dealership fees, documentation fees, "I talked to you more than twice" fees... if we argue any of that, we have absolutely no strength in our argument. The dealership knows that because they know their own inventory is woefully inadequate for the demand and they will, most likely, sell that same truck that very day to someone who doesn't argue.

I want my Taco for sure, but it is a horrible time to buy for the customer.

I'll say, that with all of the dealerships that aren't operating in any form of the best interests of their customers, there are good ones out there. First, it's not just Toyota. I was getting my old Mercedes serviced this week, and there was a G63 with an MSRP of $177K...market adjustment was $150K, for a grand total of $327K. Anyway, with all of that going on, there are some really good dealerships out there. My guy (Mountain States Toyota) reached out to me with an OR build that was really well equipped (TRD Premium, advanced tech, LED headlights and fogs) and asked if I wanted that rather than continuing to wait for a Pro. I asked if he could keep me in for one more round of allocations (as I would hate to swap out of what I had been waiting for to have it get allocated in the next round) while ensuring the OR doesn't slip away. They agreed since I had been waiting on the waiting list for over 6 months. Now, I'm kind of hoping a Pro doesn't come in as I'm doing a canopy camper build, and will need to modify the suspension (in the back at least) to deal with the extra weight...so now I feel less married to the Pro suspension and that money saved lets me do what I want to the truck. With all of that said, if the right Pro comes through in the next allocation, I think I have to take it (if only because that was the list I was on for so long). I hope I don't have to make that choice now!
Anyway, point is, we definitely notice the bad treatment from many dealerships, but some out there are trying to work with customers in a positive way.

The other thing is, I'm not sure if they're doing out of state sales. There was one other dealer I found locally that would do MSRP, and the first question he asked was where I lived as they weren't selling (at least Pros) out of state. I didn't ask about other trim levels at the time, so they might be more flexible on non-Pro models. I never asked this at Mountain States since I got on the wait list so long ago, didn't realize I would still be waiting (in the end, it doesn't really matter as I just want it before the snow starts to go...but much longer and that becomes a distinct possibility).

I f*cking hate Gulf States Toyota. They keep allocating the worst configurations within my area and it’s so damn hard to get my desired unit. I wish i could get a vehicle directly from Toyota without going through these stupid ass distributors.

I did end up getting a better rate. Sumbitches saved me $5 a month but I still feel mad about.

they know they had me over the barrel. Frustrating like “look this manual Tacoma will sell in a day. I’ve taken 40 calls on it.”

Sold: '19 TRD OR - It will always be in my heart.

I was in that same situation back in May. I ended up going for a different brand all together. I think I'm technically still on the waiting list. Or at least I never asked to be removed. The Tacoma is a great truck, but what a pain it is to get one these days.

There are honest dealers out there. I did pay a little over MSRP, bit it is THE best I could find within my timeline. Outside of that, my dealer had been wonderful. I have zero complaints.

5$ is 5$. Lower rate means a lot long term. Probably mad about it because you didn't get to have it exactly as you had planned. And that is fine, I would be as well. I didn't plan on getting a divorce and buying a new truck, but my ex-wife decided the grass was greener on the other side. You know what? I'm better off. Just like you and your better interest rate.

Horrible analogy, I know. I'm tired, I ate too much for dinner, and I'm really excited to pick up my first new vehicle since 2004. Lol

I was like look, I did all the sales here. Found the truck, did all the paperwork, got my own financing, came in to buy with literally no effort from the dealership and they tell me no, actually you need to get OUR financing only. So at the end of the day I just go "okay, sell me your financing product then." and they did. I looked at the finance guy and told him my score and my income and he said he could beat 2.9%. And they did.

I'm not mad about it because it didnt go as planned, I'm mad about it because dealers have us by the balls.

That dealership doesn't sound customer-centric. My dealer offered to shotgun my credit and see best rate if I wanted, or just run it at my preferred FCU. They actually recommended that route because they like working with them, and never tried to run me through Toyota financing, and said it would be better for my score. I got the lowest rate I could, and they didn't pressure me either way.

It sounds like a dealer tactic. Most seem to do markups on the front end, I actually think this is worse because they get you in there when the truck arrives then hit you with this. What a nightmare I am sorry.

I see now you got a better rate which is dope! It really does bring up the issue of how powerless we are. If a dealer wishes to screw us they can. It really shows their ethics and business practices during this time when they can really screw people over.

I was worried too, that at any point they could have messed up my deal, especially because I did successfully do some light negotiation. So they could have easily just sold it day 1 on arrival with their full $2k dealer pack, but they had integrity and wanted my business I guess.

The one super sucky part that is not the dealer's fault is that I got my preapproval and loan rate in January, and the truck showed up Feb 1st, so the loan rate promo changed for my FCU and it cost me a whole percentage point. That's a lot of money...one day made a huge difference...for sales guy too, that's a month later he has to wait for his commission.

    Ok, I misread. My bad.

You are correct though. Market is definitely in theor favor, and had been for some time. Last time I bought a new car, the mere mention of going somewhere else brought out the discounts.

I take it nobody has yet to have a 22 TRD pro delivered anywhere? At least I haven’t heard or seen any posts indicating a delivery yet. Mine has an eta of early March..

    Update on mine:

Deposit around Dec 15, TRD OR DCSB Celestial Silver, all options except tonneau, + some accessories

1/26 Dealer lets me know that it is being built on 1/31

2/1 Check dealer website, says it is "coming soon" to dealer, now I have a real VIN, it is apparently in "San Diego" although the build says Baja California

2/2 Notice it has predator tube steps and door guards I didn't want, that's about $800 in crap I don't want to pay for

Dealer says "Well the parts guys at Toyota add things on to these and there's no much we can do", then sends me a pic of his Tacoma and says predator tube steps are the best looking by far. Sounds like he misread the build sheet I gave him, I clearly said I DON'T WANT TUBE STEPS ESPECIALLY PREDATOR.

So the question is, do I go to the mat on this and argue over them taking these off? I really don't want to get in a pissing contest on a $45K truck over about 1.5% cost. There's a small chance I'll keep the tube steps but would prefer they remove them and credit me, or worst case I assume there is a market for these below the dealer installed price.

The "build sheet" or whatever it's called when I put my deposit down on a TRD Pro 6MT also included the predator tubes. I asked if we could remove them and he said that's just how they're built. I plan to pull them off day 1 when I take delivery.

My salesman removed mud flaps and added bed lights and a power tailgate lock just after allocation. Seems like you can mess with all that stuff if you want to.

btw, my pro that got built today was week 01.
