I propose that we petition Toyota to add oil pressure, oil temperature, and transmission temperature to 3rd generation Tacomas via a free software update. The gauges would be viewable on the center screen in the gauge cluster. Let me know what you guys think about this! Make sure to leave your vote and share this with your friends. Thanks

Would it be nice? Yes. Will they? No. It's something 1% of buyers would ever look at.

I'm sure Southeast Toyota Distributors would love to do the gauges as a distributor option and add another $5k to the window sticker for them.

In order to have the 'software update' display anything, the engine needs to have the appropriate sensors.

Obviously you could get trans temps (which would be nice). But Im not sure if the 3rd gens even have oil pressure and temp sensors installed.

I know that 2nd gen 1GR-FE do not, they just have an oil pressure switch (either on or off)

You could also get a scangauge or something comparable. It’ll give you more than what you’ve mentioned and you can view them all at once. As someone mentioned above, I don’t think there is an oil pressure or temp.

It's actually easy if the vehicle has an info screen. just be another page on it. But has to be programed and the sensors are all there since they report to the ECU already. Get some hacker on these systems to do it there are plenty of hacks out there. But if the dealer finds it say bye bye to any warranty since it's hacking the ECU or info ECU.

I understand a software update can't add physical parts to the vehicle. I just assumed the truck would have an oil pressure sensor and oil temp sensor. If it doesn't then just trans temp would be nice.

I dont think it has one either. No option for it when I hook up a scan gauge.

Trans temp sensor should be there. Oil pressure may ned an additional sensor unless there's a pressure gauge already then it may work.

I have looked into reprogramming the head unit and other systems. The head unit software in my truck is based on Linux but that's all I have been able to figure out so far (only through to software licenses page in my truck). I'm fairly versed in the world of software development, if am able to get some code running on that machine, I will definitely let this forum know how to do it. I'm still experimenting as of the moment, hopefully I find a way.

If an Oil pressure sensor isn't there you can add one somewhere I'm sure.

But thats what Im saying. If the 2GR-FKS does not have on oil temp sensor and an oil pressure gauge (different than an oil pressure switch) from the factory then it serves no purpose to OP.

Anyone can add any gauge they want, but it will be hardwired to a gauge cluster, it wont report to the factory systems / info screen
