Yeah I thought about that, but worried that they might be a bit bright and decided to see how the incandescent ones are at night. I put a nice bright LED in the dome light though.

Which LEDs are you all running because I've tried multiple and they won't turn on unless I have two of the lights one. If I just have one of the Map lights on, it won't "turn on". If I turn them both on, then they work. Thoughts?

Yeah this upgrade may be in my near future. On my 1996 Taco, there is no outside thermometer, which is kind of a drag on my backcountry adventures. Do the GenTex units come with an outside temperature sensor? I've wondered how this might work.

Finally got around to valve cover gaskets, cam plugs and half moons. Covers had been leaking for awhile. Had all the parts for ages and finally jumped in thanks to this youtube vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5fAXAuGozI&t=1769s

Also changed the plenum gaskets, plugs, wires, coil boots, cleaned the throttle bottle and MAF sensor. Was a fun project I'd been scared to do it, but ended up being relatively stress free!

Some of the map lights had different pin layouts so you might just need to verify that the wires are going to a pin. I remember having to re-pin for mine to work.

My experience exactly when I did this over the holidays. I was intimidated as I began, but very much took my time and completed the entire job successfully. Very satisfying! Especially now that the annoying burnt oil smell is gone :) BTW, I like how you labeled the hoses, wish I thought of that.

Thanks. The 4Runner map light I bought had two electrical leads (connections). I connected the hot wire from the dome to one lead, but ignored the other because I didn't know what should be connected to it. Maybe a ground wire, but that wouldn't be necessary, as the unit is grounded as it's bolted to the truck. Now both the left and right light switches work fine on the map light, but the door switch does nothing. Hmmmm...

You need the signal from the door pin, you can just splice the dome light wire and run it to the map light

Thanks. So to be clear, I spliced one of the two wires from the dome light and connected it to the map light. So you're saying I should do the same with the other wire, correct?

Exactly, very satisfying! That feeling when the engine started right up was next level haha
I labeled out of paranoia, but putting it back together it's amazing how intuitive all the hoses and connections are, so I probably didn't need to label anything. Kudos to you and goodbye burnt oil smell!

Just made this to mount on my tool box. I just 3D printed it and painted it. My old one delta badge was all bent up and faded.image.jpg

Was doing my bi-weekly spray of Tri-Flow on my noisy AF Dakars and thankfully noticed that my driver side inner CV boot is cracked and doing the grease fling thing...so I need to deal with that sooner rather than later. But...I just came out of the Arizona desert after a fun month and am at a buddies house in LA (Mission Hills). So...any of you know the area and can recommend a shop or are handy and available yourselves to help me fix this in the very near future? Pretty please.

Driving with a torn boot - as long as you aren't doing repeated water crossings - probably isn't that big a deal for a week or two, if that's what you need to get home and have your tools, etc. available. Even at your buddies house, you should be able to tackle this in the driveway; not many "special" tools necessary.

How-to: Rebooting a Tacoma CV Axle
Has a link to the reboot kit you need, as well as tools used, and then step-by-step instructions and pics of the process.

How long you in town for? I'm watching my 2 year old all weekend while my wife's out of town otherwise I'd have you come over here and we could swap that axle out pretty quick, save the OEM to reboot later. I'm a good 45 min+ from Mission Hills though, there are a lot of TW members around here. Try posting in the socal forum and I bet you'll get someone to help, I wouldn't go to a shop for that if you can avoid it.

Just ordered the rebooting kit from your post and bookmarked the post itself and will drive up the coast sooner rather than later and do this job myself Thanks Dan
