Funny thing is that brake controllers are generally most important on smaller trucks.

Just throwing my 2c in here, I would not want my brake controller integrated into a touch screen that inevitably stops working prematurely, based off my experience with Ford vehicles. Much better to have a separate controller that will outlast the vehicle.

Half the 3rd gen posts are owners trying to figure out how to adjust the dashlights/door chime/ unlock through the head touchscreen.

I appreciate having the emergency manual lever on my brake controller within instant reach if things get hairy with our 5000lb trailer behind us..

Not to worry. You not going to all of a sudden lose trailer brakes if screen goes.

I wonder if the integrated brake controller was part of them establishing the tow rating maverick?

Even though you have the tow package not all trailers that you tow will have electronic brakes

Good point and I suspect it plays into it. Smaller trucks need these controllers. You are at 2k without the tow package which is basically a regear and cooling plus the controller.

    Debadged, black sumos, brake controller.
Because of it came with one, this forum would explose on post about how crap it is and how they miss their old one and ask how to plug in another one.

No, I was referencing Ford’s touch screens which in my experience don’t last long, since you said the Maverick has that feature.

But you lose the ability to adjust it, which would suck if you tow different trailers with various loads.

Sure. But I’m guessing you’ll get your screen fixed. It’s kinda important for other stuff. Had no idea the screens were such an issue on gen 3’s

maybe I should hang in with my gen 2 until they get screen issues sorted out.

Though I would rather have physical switches than it be integrated into the touch screen, that's a silly argument. You should adjust your brake controller before driving off.

I will also note that I saw in a YouTube review that the maverick has the ability to save multiple custom presets, for those who regularly tow different trailers. Pretty nice feature, if you're going to be stuck with it in the infotainment system.

..or manually activate the brakes, like if you are coming down a mountain pass and there is a stoplight at the bottom, or someone cuts infront of you, or you get some tailwag going down the highway.. Pretty tough to turn off the radio, go through the screen menus, find the slider bar and then swipe it over in an emergency event.

I'll keep my Tekonsha within reach thanks.

Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds
They do. But they kinda suck. Factory trailer brake setups have never impressed me

So for the second time, I’ll say that I haven’t had any issues with the screen in my Tacoma. You said your relative got a Maverick, I said ford screens were shit when I had one and are an example of why I don’t ever want technology taking over something I can more reliably do myself.

Yea. Sucks about the gen3 screens.

Ford integrated are great. Have it on my f250. Seamless. Can aftermarket do this ?

Ford’s integrated controller electronically tracks hydraulic pressure inside the vehicle’s master cylinder, and uses the pressure, along with vehicle speed, to modulate the amount of current produced for trailer brakes. Thus, the system accurately follows tow-vehicle braking — more at high speeds than low — even to the point of utilizing ABS. If the tow-vehicle wheels are slipping, ABS goes into action for the tow vehicle as well as the trailer.
