I wonder if you stopped down 1 or 2 stops the whole Cardinal would have been sharp focus?

    Evening all:
Welcome John, pull up a chair on the porch and join in, just don't forget to fill up the cooler.

That is sad Kurt, hope things turn out OK.

I will probably never get another chance for pics. of an eagle like I did that day Mark, we were in a boat and got pretty close to it before it took flight and went pretty straight upriver, what I saw in the view finder would have really made some nice pics.

So far nothing but rain here, icing is supposed to start after midnight, will see!

I’m 67, retired teacher, driving a school bus and train CDL class B drivers. My three grandsons are licking their chops over my 2020 SR5 Quicksand blacked out. I’m not going quietly. Plan on putting 195k on it like I did my ‘07.

Not trying to be a know-it-all here, but I think changing the aperture has nothing to do with the focus of a single image? Focus is more dependent on shutter speed, ISO, and any movement of the subject and/or the person holding the camera. That lens is a 5.6 at that focal length (MAX) Also I was at an ISO of 1600.
This was my first go with this camera lens combo. Have you ever shot with this lens/camera combo? Plus - I was hand holding -no tripod. This combo is heavy -almost 6.5 lbs. Oh, and we forgot shooting through dirty double pane windows. Lots of things to go wrong here!

It would have been tough on a boat -especially a moving boat. Hell, they even move when you are sitting still. But it would have been fun trying. I sometime have trouble on a deck -they vibrate and move with every step. But rejoice, Thats the beauty of "digital photography" -"Spray and Pray".

Bit of advice on the "eagle" thing: there are a lot of them around. Ask some of your local nature photogs where there are any nests around -you may get lucky and they will tell you. If they do -you can't miss them they are usually very big (think Mini Cooper size). Hang out -around it in the early spring and they WILL come -not too close I have got some nice shots with my 400mm lens

This Old Fart is 68 years old and my 06 Tacoma is the 5th truck I've owned in my lifetime. As I type my response, I only pause to take a sip of my J.D. on the rocks.

    Good morning fellow Porchatonians!

Lots of rain yesterday, turned to sleet overnight and still coming as the surface temp is now just dropping below freezing. There was a nice layer of slushy crap on the driveway when I walked the dogs a few minutes ago. Supposed to keep up the sleet/freezing rain until noonish before it changes over to all snow.

The good news is that we have nowhere we need to go..for days so we'll wait it out.

    Be safe everyone!

Yesterday's storm has passed on to the east. It's a 6-8" mess of ice on top of frozen slush outside. I'll need to at least get the approach cleaned out enough for emergency vehicles and UPS.. more stuff hopefully coming today, that didn't make it yesterday. There are zero vehicles on our road this morning, eerie. We didn't totally lose power, but it was on-off several times.. hard on transfer switch contacts. One big surge fried my UPS. It did the job though, saved the PC, laptops, a tv, some other stuff. It probably fried the MOV's in it. It's old, so I'll just replace it.
This storm was a 10, like the '93 storm. We were better prepared this time around. Hope everyone comes out the other side intact.

edit: Only USPS today, Must be nice.. I've never had a day off because of the weather. :annoyed:

Sorry Mark, my doors were original from 1964. I ran out of bailing wire and there was nowhere else to put chewing gum. I pull maintenance on my doors twice a year and that helped to prolong their service. Almost all the wood screws had been replaced with carriage bolts and the springs at least once.

I feel your pain. During the last big snow, I was upstairs and noticed the canopy cover had a lot of snow. By the time I came downstairs to lift the snow off the canopy the canopy had collapsed and broke. I now use a beach umbrella while I wait for the winter to end.

Nature photography is a great hobby. I enjoyed your pictures.

Welcome to the thread. Post a few pics of your Tacoma when you get a chance.

Raining and 55 degrees here this morning. Temps are going to drop down to 26 today. Nowhere to go to today so I will spend more time practicing the guitar and taking it easy. The snow is supposed to stay to the west and north of us this weekend. Going to my first baby shower on Sunday. My Neice and her husband are expecting. This will be my sisters first grandchild. My sister already has the spoiling the grandchild activities down pat. LOL

    Morning all:
Welcome to the new guys on the porch, fill up the cooler, pull up a chair, and join in.

When we fished the river for Shad, at the one spot we could watch a pair of eagles going to and from a nest, pretty far away though, and up on a ridge, we often see them flying at the river, but up pretty high. This one was just sitting on a dead branch that extended out over the river, we were in a flat part of the river and just more or less idled up to it, we got pretty close before it decided to leave and offered the perfect opportunity for some photos, they may not have been professional quality, but they should have been good enough for me. The other camera that had the film in it still has a pic. of a large bull moose with some impressive headgear that I took in Maine and then never got the film developed! :annoyed:

So far nothing but rain here, sure better than ice.

:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch Pals & Gals! It's a balmy 22* for the low overnight, and we're up to 25* already! Might see 35* and some sun this afternoon. We did not get iced too bad here at the house, but the world is closed in Central Texas as many folks got more freezing rain and sleet than we did. NOT the anticipated .25". Water softener rock salt got me to the garage and back, and it wasn't that bad. Today, it's the leftover ice, and wind chills of 2*-5* that keeps us in the warning. Nowhere to go anyway, and chili and lasagna leftovers to keep us warm and full.

Welcome Barry and Jim. We're not even using the cooler this week! Just avoid Mike's recliner - he gets cranky.
