Several 100 miles of this, I'll take the FWD Prius with the proper tires, not my Tacoma with the proper tires. If I had A Ridgline is would also get the nod over my Tacoma. There is no salt used on the roads in this region of the country so the roads are what they are in Winter til it warms up.

....the only real issue with not taking the truck is that I just can't pull over 'wherever' to pee or let the dog(s) stretch out a bit!

I see why the prius, you can't really run 4wd on those roads as they are not bad enough

that's on paper... I've owned both. i regularly load over 1.5k lbs on my taco. the Ridgeline struggled with 600lbs. it squats terribly and the minivan motor doesn't have sh1t for power in the low end.

    it's a minivan with a bed. it's not a truck

Odd! I picked up an outdoor brick fire pit kit last year with a 20 Ridgeline. Kit weighed approx. 1200lb loaded on a pallet. Guy loaded it in with a forklift. No issues of any kind. Of course, I keep forgetting this is a Tacoma site so anything not Tacoma is inferior in every way.

I am sure all forums are like that. I am sure the ridgeline forum people do the exact same thing. Pretty normal. I think the plusses of the ridgeline have been discussed as have the plusses of the Tacoma and other normal full frame trucks. My only beef with the ridgeline has been looks. If I wanted a truck that looks like a minivan, that would be it. At least the first gen ridgeline actually looked like a truck.

I think for an urban setting, someone who needs open bed, more cargo room, good mpg, reliability etc., the ridgeline is a good choice. It kind of sits in its own class.

i disagree, I'm not in the Tacoma cult. it's a little truck and it is directly comparable to a Ranger, Colorado, Dakota, S-10, Frontier, etc. those are Trucks, built like Trucks.

The Ridgeline is a minivan with a bed, built like a minivan with a bed. it is definitely great, but Why would someone compare it to a little truck? apples and oranges..

somebody was even comparing a taco to a Prius. WTF?

Have you ever visited a prius forum??? Those guys compare their prius to everything from Ferraris to H1's and how the prius is superior to all. They are also the same guys driving 10 below the speed limit in the fast lane, which is why they get coal rolled so often:rofl:

I got a Ridgeline. I couldn't take the Taco on long trips anymore. I drive back and forth to Fla. 1100 miles about every 6 weeks. It's just more comfortable. My Taco was perfect for 80k miles 40k was towing my Lance trailer. But I couldn't get comfortable. I was always over the 950 payload on the Tacoma but it handled it fine but squatted quite a bit. if you tow at limit on Tacoma it will be fine but over payload on sticker. My RL has higher payload than the new Tundras. Obviously the Tundra would handle it better but it always was a slight irritation to me being over payload. If anyone cares the RL is basically a Pilot with some heavier stronger suspension parts so it should be more durable than the Pilot. Also the VCM is not 4cyl mode only 3 cylinder and it almost never comes on. The RL is only 2" less wide than the Tundra so on long rides its much roomier which makes a big comfort difference on the long ride. The Tacoma was really cool looking and I got compliments on it daily.

I would love to see a video of a ridgeline driving with a 1500 payload. I believe you can load it that high, but I would love to see it driven around. Hondas are not known to be durable(reliable yes) and I am sure the ridgeline is no different.

Also, can any ridgeline owner look up the GAWR for it. I cannot find it listed anywhere.

We put almost 200k miles on our 2010 Prius. Ran snow tires all winter and it was legitimately one of the best over-the-road winter cars I've ever owned. Its Achilles heel was deep snow though.

Yeah, when the roads are bad with constantly changing conditions, I take our 2016 AWD RAV4 every time. It's what I've been driving much of the last 2 weeks here since the snow clearing has been terrible with the low low temps day after day. The Tacoma is great if you can leave it in 4WD, but the way our winter road conditions are up here in Vermont, it's constantly changing. You can be on dry pavement one second, and driving across snow and ice-covered stretches the next. A true AWD vehicle (especially with proper snow tires) is just so superior to the simple part-time 4WD of the Tacoma.

I think it's weird that even the new Tundra doesn't have a full-time 4WD option. Pretty much all the domestic full-size pickups have it except on the lowest trim levels.

Funny, I bet toyota would sell a ton of tacomas and tundras if they just put the full time 4wd on their limited version like they do for the 4runner.

I'm happily suprised how well it does on packed snow/ice. 106K troublefree miles so far. yea, deep snow or heavy/wet late season snow is a no-go and I'll take the Tacoma.
