1st Gen Lunchtable Thread - General Discussion

Needed metric inverted flare brake line caps.... which you cannot find for whatever reason anywhere. Even the place that I go that makes custom hydraulic fittings/hoses of all kinds didn't have them. So I ordered those and decided I'd get the new bolts I needed to put my frame back together too.

 

Nice. Will look bling against the new paint.

 

Reminds me of a presentation I went to years ago.

I think it was put on by Dave Thomas (of Pragmatic Programmer fame; not Dave Thomas of Wendy's fame or Dave Thomas of Bob and Doug fame, although the latter would have been entertaining). The gist of it was: "Software is doing more and more stuff, and it's a matter of time until someone blames a very visible catastrophe on bad software. Once that happens, governments will get involved and software will become a regulated industry. Everybody needs to get better at engineering and quality control if you don't want that to happen."

Not to imply that you're bad and engineering or quality control... but it sounds like somebody was and you're getting some of the fallout.

 

Yeah, gotta love the zinc coating haha. I couldn't find the small head flange bolts like Toyota uses locally either but they have em on belmetric which is nice for keeping the same wrench sizes on hand.

I love their yellow zinc coated bolts. And the fact they have such a large selection of JIS 10.9 stuff too.

That was such a great little truck to learn to clutch. We lived next to 30 or 40 acres of vacant lots and I’d tear the shit outta that place in that truck. Good times!

So, I didn't mean to say don't do a shock relocation, I meant, don't make it your first welding project.

In these trucks, the rear already flexes pretty well even with the stock lear pack. But yeah, if you're going with some nice rear shocks then absolutely do a shock relocation because the most travel you'll get is about 9" or so. A relocation will net you quite a few more inches.

It's the front that suffers really.

 

I'm a champion in favor of relocating shocks, but it helps to have an idea of what you need before you just go buying shit... Use what you have to learn what you need.

That's the stock location, no problem dropping a 31" tire below the body...

It's a fair amount of measuring and fabrication to set up shocks properly....

It’s entirely true. Software is a critical piece of engineering but the rigor of proving that it works is all over the place.

My job is between the software team and the customer, so I get to see it from both angles.
