OP clearly said he was taking steps to get his money back..where do you figure that YOU have to be the one to do something? No need to be a white knight for OP.

 

My sister fell into this a few years ago. Always went out to eat, shopping, and her kids never seem to want for a thing but couldn't pay the mortgage.

 

Yep it's a disease of it's just X amount per month.

 

Or for her it was oh I want this I want that..well I do want things too, and to be fair I manage to fulfill some of those now, but needs before wants.

Granted I have no children versus her having 3, and they ain't cheap but sometimes you have to say "no" to them although I'm sure no parent ever wants to do that.

Always a good position. Mine is up there but we've been here 17 years and paid pretty aggresively on it especially after the first few years. I say that last part because we ripped it apart one room at a time and started over.

I bet if you get in touch with the local news "On Your Side" investigators they would LOVE to do a story on this guy. Local news channels love these stories since fraudsters impact the local community and audiences despise thieves. I was also just thinking about interstate commerce... if OP wants to see this through I'm willing to bet he could get the feds involved. I'd be willing to bet OP's local congressman and the congressman from the scammers district would be willing to put him in touch with the appropriate authorities.

There are MANY avenues one could take to absolutely shred this scammer. This is one thing that government is there for, consumer protection.
