Should be dex3. If the drain plug is OE, it should be stamped D3 as well.

I could be wrong but I’ve heard the Toyota T-IV transmission fluid is a good OEM replacement since Dex III can be hard to find from a good brand.

before you take the fluid out, have you checked the fluid to see if its black and smells burnt? If it does dont change it. That “filter” is just a strainer, order a magnefine filter.

I’ve seen this mentioned here on the forum and have used it myself. It covers Toyota Type IV among others

I think your wasting your time taking out the pan strainer(rock guard)....
its far too coarse to catch much......

Just change that magna external filter every 25K or so.....what ever brand you use...mine Raybestos....
only way your gonna catch anything in that screen is if your tranny is falling apart......

As far as tranny fluid .....I thoroughly flush the toy oem out 10K ago ....went with the Valvoline max life synthetic...

However Scotty says ....always....always save the old fluid.......just in case.....at least on an unknown tranny....

I use the lucas conditioner when making any major changes....

I personally wouldn't bother with the internal filter. Just flush it.
