Sales tax and dealer fees are not included in this, but we’re an additional expense.

That's not bad actually. I see Tacos on copart that look like the were bombed going for almost that. Or far more than they should anyways.

    Looks like a nice rebuild.

You are absolutely correct. Beginning in December 2021 the prices for these went nuts… and the interesting thing is, people out of South America Countries, Africa, Middle East and the eastern block are bidding too. I can’t figure how that makes on the financial end with the shipping cost and country fees.

How much will you have in airbag repair/damage? A deer totalled my 2015 in December. I paid $32,680 for it in 15 and Insurance gave me $35,250. I thought about buying it back but for $5k more I got a 2020 OR with 25k miles and a Toyota certified warranty. Not going to mod this one as much because I'm getting older and enjoy the better ride and gas milage etc. Good luck on your build.

Will the grill assembly (comes grill and surround, I believe) need to be painted or does it pre-painted?
It will be interesting to see how you make out $-wise after completion.

I'm a little confused here (so pardon my ignorance).

That truck was a total loss? I'm curious what's actually wrong with it, becuase from what I see it's a minor front end impact (how'd the air bags end up blowing?). The hood and fenders look fine, mechanical behind the grill looks okay.

You seem to have made out like a bandit, OP.

    Nothing major yet.
It probably hit something low, like a sedan. I wouldn’t be surprised if there is slight frame damage. Probably was a pretty hard collision even though it doesn’t look like much.

It took me some time to get the all the parts in.

I found a great price for front dash, dash airbag, knee airbags, wheel airbag, seatbelts, and module. All for $1500. Based on what what I was seeing that’s a steal of a deal.

The only problem it was in Mississippi. I am in CA. Shipping would be $500, on top of the price.

my father is a long haul truck driver, so I asked him to pick up the parts. He did, but he had to continue working so my parts were traveling up and down the United States for another two weeks or so.

With that said, we took the dashboard out yesterday, installed the new one. All airbags are in. Seatbelts are in. Module replaced.

The front seats were sent for repair and should be done tomorrow, Monday. The seats airbags are waiting to be installed.

I got the bumper painted. However when I got it back the color was off. It went back for repainting. Waiting on that as well.

I also needed to buy fog lights. The dealer wanted 200 and some dollars each. I really need to just the driver side one. I couldn’t believe they were so expensive at the dealership. I bought a pair on Facebook marketplace for $50. they came off a 2021 off-road model.

The grill assembly I bought on eBay. However the grill itself was off of 2018 model I believe. It had a chrome boarder. The emblem off of my car wouldn’t fit. So I had to had buy a separate grill that matched my car. 100 bucks with the emblem.

    that’s where we are.

I work in the legal industry and deal with property damage claims all the time. There is some formula that they use. When the insurance companies evaluate damage The prices for parts are just like what a shop would charge you.

There is also estimates for time of repair, and there’s charges for the technicians to do that work.

The prices that I’m finding are cheaper than going to the dealer and getting it there. Fog lights are just one example. The dealer wanted over $200 for a fog light. I bought a pair for $50 from some guy from Facebook Marketplace.

Curtain airbags for example are about 1500 bucks at the dealer, each. I paid 1500 for two, one for each side.

I am also getting a windfall because I’m doing all the work. I’m not paying anybody to repair it for me.

I don’t think there is frame damage. From my limited knowledge I did not see anything that would indicate there was one. I’ll take the car to alignment when it road worthy, I’m sure they’ll tell me if something is off.

Love that you're bringing this Yota back from the dead. Very cool.

Maybe you already are but are you checking the 3rd Gen Buy, Sell, Trade section on this forum? Lots of folks sell their OEM parts on the cheap once they've upgraded.

I commend you for taking on this project and saving a ton of dough. I'd like to buy a project Tacoma and build it back up, but I'd end up paying a shop to do the work (because I'm lazy)...which defeats the purpose of buying a wrecked truck, of course. Kudos to the dedication!

Thanks. Yes, I have checked out the Buy, Sell, Trade section.

I didn’t buy anything using it yet. I have been using Facebook Marketplace, and Offer up. Got some great deal on OEM parts.
