Crossfit is more than just a cardio workout. It's a combo of strength training, olympic lifting, gymnastics and cardio all wrapped into one. Nor do you have to be strong and fit to attempt. There are so many shapes, sizes and ages that do crossfit. We have an 80yr old man that just started at my box. Is he strong and fit? Not in the slightest, but he's there giving it what he has. Every workout in crossfit is scalable according to ability.

I keep doing it because I have never had these kind of results or gains by just going to a place like 24hr fitness. It also keeps me from getting bored with my workouts.

Thats what brand x does...they scale it for you! I've done the crossfit stuff, and my dads been doing it for about 3 years. I've never been good at the olympic power lifting stuff tho..always seems to hurt me. I've done light weight too, to try and work on my form but I still end up with some type of shoulder pain. That being the case, probably why its more of a cardio workout for me more then anything else. Also I didn't see any gains either! I'm not really sure why....

Fair enough. I was just stating that water pills do take water out of your body. And that is not the most healthy thing. I wrestled throughout high school and am now a coach and have seen what water pills do to kids. Obviously that was the most extreme situation because they were taking these pills, not drinking any water, wearing sweat suites ex.... but taking water pills can be alright as long as you are keeping hydrated. The other thing is its not permanent weight you are loosing. Its almost temporary or as long as you are taking the supplements for.

when i plateau i change my workouts by reversing them, changing the number of reps, the number of sets, exercises... i'll also work different muscles together or separate to change it up. ex. if i always do chest on one day, i will add chest and tris. then next time i will do chest and bis. i think it's good to keep your body guessing.. don't let it get used to the same thing..

Its not permanent weight loss at all, its used to reduce the water weight for contests or other such things. I use them to kick start the water loss and help get the excess sodium outta my system! Yea those kids sound like they were definitely abusing it! If you use supplements, follow the directions, take the precautions, make sure that you are in good enough health to take them and you take for the right reasons.

That's the whole thing about plateaus though... you never know when you're going to get them, how ling they will last, or how well you will cone out of them. I am on about a 1 month plateau right now and its brutal! But I keep working because I enjoy it and I am switching up my workout every few weeks to attack it. There is no definitive science to a plateau sadly

I have read this entire thread and definitely feel more enlightened. Great advice seems to be given here. I have a few questions though as I'm looking to shed some weight, then gain in back in muscle. I'm not fat or anything I would just like to be more lean/cut. I was thinking of purchasing some fat loss supplements and focus my workout routine mainly on cardio with a few weights in there. Does this sound like a decent beginning, and as I progress more and get to where I'm comfortable then start building the muscle? If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be greatly appreciated as well. Thanks!

People do this and it does work, but I say no, here's why. Just sedentary, muscle burns quite a bit more calories than fat. I suggest that if you really want to burn off some weight, first off get your diet in check. Make yourself a workout plan that has you lifting about 3 days a week and doing the cardio 3 days a week. Don't lift and do cardio in the same day. If you do, do your cardio, and then come back and lift later. I don't suggest this for a beginner though. It is tough on schedules as well as the body.

Also, stay away form the diet pills... They are prone to just fucking up your metabolism...

Okay so should I mainly focus on the cardio? I'm getting my diet in check now as well.

I'm not an expert, but I do have experience in losing weight.

Others may not agree with me on this one, but I would suggest you stay away from 'fat loss supplements'. And do it the natural way, may take a little longer, but is better.
If you want to drop some weight, and get the lean/cut look, you need to spend a lot of time doing cardio and treadmill, AND spend a lot of time at the Gym. Not just a 30 min workout or an hour, but longer. Start off slow, and work yourself up.
After losing the weight you want to loose, start doing some weight lifting, but continue to do the cardio.
Take sugar out of your diet, stop with the soft drinks. And eat healthier, eat more fruits and vegetables, some meat. I love mixing some tri-tip into a salad, GOOD.

Also make sure to drink plenty of water, and take a good name brand multivitamin every day.
Check with your Doctor first before starting any kind of exercise routine, and check to make sure if you take a multivitamin, it won't interact with any meds.

    Good luck.

    1. Crossfit = Awesomeness. You don't need to be an all-star athlete before trying. It's one of those things that get's better with time. Find a good box that offers a lot of programs. Mine is awesome. We have the opportunity to train with olympic lifter/UCLA powerlifter Sean Waxman 2 days a week. And Dusty(can't remember his last name). This guy was the first male to score a perfect 10 on the rings in NCAA gymnastics. Training with these guys helps keep me well versed and ready for anything.

    2. Paleo is the solution to every diet. Can follow it to get ripped, and can follow it to get swole. Follow the basics and tailor it to suit you needs. You'll never feel better.

    3. Pink Magic=

Massularia Acuminate: Androgenic potential (in rats)
Androgenic potentials of aqueous extract of Massul... [J Ethnopharmacol. 2008] - PubMed result

Nelumbo Nucifera: antiobesity effect (in mice fed with a high-fat diet)
Improvement in high-fat diet-induced obesity and b... [J Agric Food Chem. 2010] - PubMed result

    Rhamnus Nakaharai:
3-O-methylquercetin more selectively inhibits phos... [Planta Med. 2003] - PubMed result -> PDE3/PDE4 inhibitor (in guinea pigs)
Antioxidative effects of 6-methoxysorigenin and it... [Chem Pharm Bull (Tokyo). 2007] - PubMed result -> Antioxidant

So basically the ingredients in Pink Magic have been proven in clinical studies.
BUT are the quality and quantity that were tested of said ingredients in Pink Magic? That's the big question. There are alot of other T-Boosters out there that are much better and cheaper.

Everyone thinks that they need to get smaller before they get bigger. WRONG! You can't just add lean mass with no fat naturally. Sure with certain hormone and chemical supplements you can. Don't..let me repeat DON'T put off lifting to get "skinny" first. Weight training has actually been proven to help burn calories. This will help you lean out, yet you'll be stronger. Cardio is essential to leaning out. But diet is crucial among lifting and cardio. Can't eat a pizza, go for a run and expect to look like a greek god. Just doesnt happen. People don't often realize the effects of hormones based on diets. For instance, everyone keeps talking about simple vs complex carbs, and how its better to intake complex carbs because they take longer to digest, thereby keeping you "fuller" longer. But what happens to those complex carbs when they break down? The same as simple carbs. They both turn into sugars. Yes we need sugar in our system to function, but an overload of sugar can cause a lot of problems(not to mention Diabetes).
Sounds like your moving in the right direction. Don't be afraid to lift a lot. I would stay away from diet pills. Most of them are just packed full of caffeine. They can actually cause you to gain trunk fat. After stimulating your adrenal glands for excess periods of time, you begin to raise cortisol levels. Cortisol=stress=fat. This is what I mean by food/supplements effecting hormones. If you want a good diet, I recommend looking into the Paleo Diet. Robb Wolf has a great and easy to understand book called The Paleo Solution.
Feel free to ask questions or tell me I'm wrong:D
