    i figured the baffle is more to keep it from sloshing around on the trails if it starts to fill. (should empty it before the trail to have as little oil in there to begin with) but it also increases the surface area of the inside of the can that the vapors can latch onto and begin to gather up as droplets. if it is a very light mist, most of the flow will go in one side and out the other, preventing the can from doing much good so having this helps. Other ideas i've seen are stainless steel wool pads like this;

Both options are stupid cheap - but figured to use a stainless streel drain mesh to see if it does what i think it will do.

In my opinion, Automatic High-beams is synonymous with auto-dimming headlights. I believe oostroma mistook my response as referring to automatic headlights instead of automatic high-beams. It's perfectly normal to get those two confused in a forum setting where we all generally try to anticipate at least some variance in terms.

Got 1/4 of the way done with predator step delete .... :taco:

Took a nice bite on the fender flare ... thankfully didn't catch it with the tire that would've sucked.

Wifey was in the truck when it happened so real sliders should be an easier sell now

Looks like a couple of you have stumbled on a neat life hack today...

Step 1: tell the wife you want [mod x]
Step 2: take the wife wheeling
Step 3: break off whatever [mod x] will/would have replaced while wheeling
Step 4: "well dangit honey, it looks like I just don't have a choice now..."
    Step 5: install [mod x]

In general the point of a catch can is to reduce the amount of oil vapor making it into the intake charge on an engine that uses a positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) system. This is especially useful with engines that use direct port injection, like the 3.5L 2GR-FKS, since there is no fuel coming down the intake runners to wash the back of the intake valves off. The oil vapor starts to cake up on the back of the valves and reduce performance after a while but the catch can helps to reduce that. I'm not sure if the 2.7L version is direct injected or not though.

Not talking about the catch can. I understand the benefits. Talking about the custom mesh that was installed.

Yeah, steps in general are not going to survive long when flogging the truck sufficiently. IMO sliders are the only way to go if you're actually going to drive the truck the way it looks like it should be driven. Looking over options for sliders though I'm not all that impressed with most of the options available. I may just wait until I break mine off then build something stupid skookum.

Ah, my bad. I misunderstood the question. In that case, I doubt the mesh will have much of an effect due to the lack of surface area. If I was doing this, and I might now that I'm thinking about it, I would look at going the same route that Shveet suggested with the stainless steel wool. Combining the two would keep the wool at the top of the canister and might produce the cleanest air for the intake. I think that would be the Cockford Olie.

Nice. Just ordered my full plate bumper this week. Mind if I ask how long yours took to arrive? Just so I can set some reasonable expectations.

I bought some of these but after putting one in the can I decided it took up too much space and took it back out. It collects oils as it is.

dont use the fiberouse version of the wool. good chance the loose fibers might get brought in on the intake side and into the rest of the air intake and that'd be a disaster for another day.

But otherwise, i've slowly looked into what the Subie guys do with their turbo setups (can apply the same logic for our use case). lots of info there and it's just figuring out what is the "best" method at the end of the day.
My "issue" with the wool is that it will reduce the volume inside the can (there is still lots of room in there) it's simply remembering you wont have the full capacity.

Technically could compensate with a larger reservoir/ can.

Treated my truck with a little respect and moved my weights from the garage to the basement so I could park inside. should be able to save on my electricity bill too since I’m not having to plug in overnight in the winter. Double bonus now my wife doesn’t have an excuse to not workout.

Agreed. I think the beefier steel wool (not sure how the wire thickness is rated, but I'd go with "thick") would be sufficiently robust enough to handle that. After a couple times draining the tank I'm pretty sure I'd get a good feel for the appropriate draining intervals, especially if I'm measuring the discharge each time.

97 days from ordering to shipping. Another ~7 days for delivery.

Not too shabby all (COVID) things (COVID) considered.
