If an EMP hit what parts would we need on hand to get up and running?

Large-scale tragic survivalism is a pointless exercise and an excuse for people to waste their money on prep. You think you're going to enjoy living like it's Fallout or I Am Legend?

Everyone assumes they'd be the protagonist of a thrilling post-apocalyptic novel or movie.

An EMP that big would also damage the electronics in gas station pumps. So, you'd only get far as the fuel you have or are able to scavenge even if your truck was repaired.

People here are much more knowledgable about these scenarios: https://www.survivalistboards.com/forums/

Ive seen it in the movies
didnt Harrison Ford survive a nuclear explosion by hiding inside a fridge ?
He was busted up pretty good but he survived .
This would take some serious planning
In the year 2036, we get hit with massive solar flares according to the scientists .
Considering it takes 8 minutes for the light from the sun to reach earth , You have a 7 minute window of opportunty to find a drive in fridge lined with lead thats big enough for your Tacoma to survive :bananadead:

There’s zero chance solar flares can be forecast 14 years in advance.

I maybe have 5 months for a family of four. My GS and cats will have to fend for themselves (they do hunt now anyway).

Funny how many older homes in Colorado Springs have bunkers from the Cuban Missile Crisis, especially in the wealthier neighborhoods.

One downside is they are 24 volt systems not 12 volt.

All this talk about what to replace, but nobody has suggested turning your garage into a Faraday cage yet?

Turn your garage into a Faraday cage and don't sweat it.

Theoretically speaking, you think an aluminum pole barn would do it?

Probably not. But I ain't no nerdy science type.

Afaik Faraday cages derive most of their functionality or whatever you want to call it from the "cage", aka grids/meshes. That said, aluminum foil does block some EM, so... :notsure:

I had a 1987 Toyota Cressida. It had 22 computers throughout the car. Now some were nothing more than a simple circuit that was dubbed a "computer" to show how advanced the heap was, but still in all, this was 1987, the Cressida was the forerunner to the Avalon of today. Imagine what goes on behind the scenes in these vehicles that would fry.

If an EMP hits you'll have bigger issues than getting your truck running.

There are many CUCV's that have been converted to a 12 Volt system. When I was looking at getting one I would say almost 40% I came across over the internet said they were on a 12 volt system now. Also, there are some older military vehicles out there that would probably work.

https://topclassiccarsforsale.com/chevrolet/ put CUCV in the search

    I don't think so.

Easy enough to find out if you have access to said barn. Try to make a mobile phone call from inside. Try to lock your truck with the fob from the other side of the wall (you in - truck out or vice versa).

That's a radio frequency wave not an electro magnetic pulse, so, different no?
