What’s the most annoying “popular” mod

Yeah, at those prices most would go Raptor/TRX and get a lot more in suspension than the Pro.

 

Small tires. 3g look terrible with 245s. They look even terrible-er with 245s and aftermarket fender flares that stick out further.

 

Yawn. Unless someone has a light bar shinning in my face blinding me, or wheel poke that is kicking stones up that are nicking my paint or cracking my glass, why would I (or anyone for that matter) give a flying hootass how some else mods and …

I mean I make mods to my truck that … well, make it my truck. Don’t do it to annoy or impress anyone else. Just because I like it or they make my truck more useful. That’s it.

I mean I see mods on trucks that I think are ugly or make me scratch my head … but their truck, their mods, their money. It’s what makes the world go around.

 

Totally agree. Hell, I'll take their money and do whatever they want.

 

I like pizza but I have no idea what any of that other stuff is.

 

I think the Pro with the factory width fenders looks ok. I don't like the rest of the Pro exclusive exterior, badging. Maybe a smaller Toyota script on the grill, maybe find a wsy to hide the light bar in the grill. The regular Tundra doesn't look good with out the wider fenders.

Oh man this thread is great! So many miserable folks in here! Honestly the only things that make me cringe are the fake a$$ mods added for looks that actually serve a purpose for others. I have no idea why someone would buy an expensive bull bar front bumper just for looks or fake D-Ring Shackles that aren't actually a recovery point. @ClassyTacos posted the fake winches and those take the cake!

I have done a TON of mods to my truck that are just for looks. Probably what I love most about the Tacoma and the community. It's not so much that we think a meso de-chroming kit or a new shifter knob is going to add horsepower... it's the fun we have tinkering with our truck, cracking beers, and making it unique. Have I seen some mods on TW that I think are hideous? Of course. But I hope I never get miserable enough to be annoyed by something that puts a smile on that idiot's face. Live and let live!

My custom grille lights & cab switch!! Love the stealth/hidden look of these and they're one of a kind! I have to admit, I never understood the hate for these but I'm pretty sure they won this thread. Before discovering TW I always just called them grille lights like we call bed rack lights, tag lights, roof rack lights, bed lights, etc.. Since when was a Ford the only truck allowed to put lights in a grille? Are there trucks that are only allowed to have lights in the side mirror that I don't know about?

Again, if you like tinkering with your truck on a Saturday... add lights and switches to whatever you want! If something is popular, there's probably a reason. I feel sorry for anyone that wants to add something cool to their truck but doesn't do it because another truck has already done it. Just sounds awful. Somebody really suggested buying a Raptor if you want lights in your grille lol. WAY smarter than buying the Tacoma you want and putting $30 lights in the grille!! Genius!

 

They are called raptor lights because that’s the rig they come stock on and made the look popular. They are a safety requirement for that truck because it’s over a specified width. If anyone wants to add 3 little unnecessary amber safety lights to there grill cause they think it looks cool there is nothing wrong with that at all and they shouldn’t care what people think at all. I do stuff that’s not popular to and couldn’t care less but if you add raptor lights just know most other Tacoma owners may or may not shake there heads and call you a poser. I’m sorry man I don’t make these rules. At the end of the day everyone should do the add-ons that make them happy and if being a poser is what gives you that happy feeling then go for it.

 

I have never seen anybody place clearance lights on a truck grill. Until Ford started the trend with the Raptor, so Raptor lights is what people call them.

Yeah if I recall, the Raptor had them for street legal reasons. Like there had to be a certain amount of lighting so many inches apart.

Not really a mod. I was talking about folks like me that just wanted lights in the grille like we want lights on our bed rack or whatever. But hey, if people want to let it annoy them, knock yourself out! I just never understood it. Those "iF yOu wAntEd a RapTor yoU sHouLda bOughT a RaPtor" folks aint too bright.

 

I don’t think it actually “annoys” anyone some people just don’t like them I think is all. I don’t think you guys mean it this way you just like the look but what it says to everyone else is I wish I had a raptor.

 

Most annoying service option/upgrade: nitrogen tire fill. Cannot believe my service department flagged that as a necessary item they recommend for me. SMH. Nitrogen in my tires. I told them 78% of my tires are filled with nitrogen already.

• Such a bullshit mod and I bet average, non mechanical people like my mother just have them do it for 30 bucks every time they go in because they trust the mechanics
• Fucking shady
• And annoying
• Thus - it tops my list

Reminds me of Spaceballs when the President opens a can of Perri Air and huffs it. Fucking nitrogen in the tires as an upgrade. Sheesh.

 

Man, I hope somebody wouldn’t buy a truck just because of some grille lights you could put on any truck for $40. I’m sure some have, but that just makes no logical sense to me lol.

And I’ve seen guys leave a gas station without airing up their tires because the pump wasn’t nitrogen

 

I don’t think anyone has bought one for the lights. I think they get them cause they are a super badass truck with a big powerful engine nice interior and upgraded suspension. It’s such a beast it requires the extra safety lights. I love the Tacoma but a raptor it is not. It’s ok to have a little raptor envy nobody blames you. Sometimes you step on the gas and you think god I wish this was a desert race truck with a 5.2 liter supercharged 760 hp v8 but it’s a 3.5 liter minivan engine and you get a little sad so you put on some raptor lights. I completely understand dude really I do. I also sometimes wish my truck was a raptor even though I love it.

 

Lol. Good to know. I can admit I don’t know the first thing about Raptors, never even been in one, but I appreciate the insight. However, your logic is flawed. If you see a Tacoma owner that wanted to put lights in his grille and think “he wishes he had a Raptor” then you’re implying they would buy a Raptor simply for grille lights.

Again, I’d hope nobody buys a truck for that reason but unfortunately I’m probably wrong. I chose to get the truck I wanted and wired lights all over it because I love tinkering with my truck which (to me) makes way more sense than purchasing the first truck to have grille lights just so strangers can’t get annoyed and call you a poser. However, your post tells me you feel the opposite and you’re suffering from major Raptor envy for more than some $40 lights in the grille. I’m sorry you didn’t get the truck you wanted man, I don’t know how that feels but I bet it’s not fun

 

Not sure if this is a mod but when the Tacoma is 100% blacked out, no chrome, no gloss, no semi gloss, just flat or matte black on everything.

 

100% the absolute most annoying Mod is the "Empty Wallet Mod!"

 

I got raptor lights with my grill. I like them, bandwagon or not. Doesn't matter if anyone else likes them, I pay for my truck and do what I want.
