I hate to bring this back up as a newb, but I have a plain old 22 SR. I cannot find anything (plate) that either covers both cats or is available for the I4 version of the truck. The 5 or six I have seen limit the options to just the V6. Can anyone recommend one I have missed?

@Talon2006 makes one and I believe on his website there’s an option for the 2.7. Here’s his thread https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/welcome-to-talons-garage.743159/

In the research I was doing a while back it seemed to me that all cat plates only covered the front set of cats and not the secondary, more exposed ones. I’ve heard those are lower value and so less of a target, but I don’t really know. From what I’ve seen most folks are solely focused on protecting the forward ones. It’s definitely odd that the plate for the 2.7 would be singled out like that in that case though :notsure: Hopefully Talon can weigh in here and sort it out for ya!

Wow that's a lot of metal.

I guess I am just trying to balance out not being foolish and not being paranoid. Is the second one cheaper to replace in general/less negative effect if removed?

More importantly , will the one you already have for sale, would it impede oil changes etc? Sorry if my questions have already been asked.

It will not alter engine oil changes. The plate would need to be removed to service the transmission, but this isn’t as frequent.

I went with the Talon Shield.. great product. BUT then I got to thinking about pest control and relating it to thieves. Got some cheap metal anti pest and rodent spike strips and layered them around under my truck by securing them to the frame and up around the cc's. Anyone who dares go poking around under there especially quickly like a thief would is bound to hurt themselves and well honestly... when it comes to thieves.. I'd at least want them to bleed a little since it's unlawful nowadays to just shoot them.

I will try to get some pictures after the snow and Ice melt away (i'm in the north currently). But basically the shield I have is 1/4" aluminium plate, was able to drill some pilot holes through and screw in these strips shown below. I did take some snips and trim the spikes back about an inch just so they weren't so long. Also I took some long self tapping metal screws and drilled them in from the backside of the plate for extra 'why the hell not'. Very cheap modification and I know they are there if I have to work around them in the future or I can drop the plate and remove it all in one shot. Since it is cheap to do this I am not worried about bending them up over time as it doesn't cost much to replace them should i need to, usually every time I change my oil I will inspect them. Like i said before, thieves will quickly try to get under there not expecting this and I am more than happy to help them *F* themselves up a bit in the process. **Very good Idea to give any mechanics a heads up should you need to service your vehicle in shop as well, lol.

There have been numerous cats stolen from employee cars /trucks in the Honda Manufacturing parking lot (central Ohio), with Security vehicles cruising the same parking lots. There was also a county vehicle (CRV) that had the secondary cat stolen while it was in an open (county owned) parking lot. The video camera recorded it, but no clear image of the thief.

I've been working on adding a proximity sensor to back up the cat shield, does anyone know if I could add this to the front hood switch to activate the oem alarm....
