That was the reason I did go with a tray. Many of the long travel guys do have braces on the inside but they also don’t have racks and stuff on the rails. Just not designed to have say 300lbs of dynamic weight up there (that’s a conservative weight of a rtt and some kind of rack/cap system).

I think anything that’s not a direct replacement looks pretty good on the third gens. Hate to say it but even @Norilsk rear bumper wkth the cut bedsides turned out not too bad.

Did I just get voluntold to build another bumper?

    We will talk.

this picture really shows it. The metal bedside isn’t really that structural.

If it's still shut down 2 weeks from now....bumper storage won't be our primary concern

Need to look at it hoe-listically. The front bumper is also cut high above the rocker panel body line, creating the symmetry:

    IMG_20210730_162718952ss.jpg

If you get the front and rear bumpers from the same vendor, the profiles will line up even better.

Looks like the cap is only spread out in the back part. Maybe it's the bed. Maybe it's the cap.

The Tacoma has a slight coke bottle shape when viewed from the top. The outer profile of the railcaps narrows toward the rear. If the camper shell was made from a "generic" mold with parallel sides then you'll get increasing gap toward the rear. Try contacting the manufacturer?
