Alright y’all. I need new rubber on my truck. The debate is what to get in terms of size. I guess the question is, what’s the fattest tire I can throw on the OEM 17” sport rim (with Rick’s old suspension)? If nothing like a 285, then I’m going to have to get aftermarket rims, probably 17x9 0 offset. Then if I do that, can I technically shove 305 in there? Then I’m gonna have to trim and crap, so there’s that debate too…

 

Another pro to being single...

 

Backspacing at least on a 2nd Gen, you'd want 4.5" or less to pull the tire away from the UCA. Which with my Icons and 4.5" backspacing I run 12.5" wides. Also ran 12.5s on stock UCAs, but in a 33. So 315 or 12.5 wides

 

When you say fattest are you specifically looking for width or bigger diameter?

 

More so width. Like, anywhere from a 285 to a 305. I'd like to keep the stock rims if possible as well.

 

@replica9000 was running some pretty wide tires. I don't remember if he had 295's or 305's, they were wide though.

 

I have 295/70R17 on my 4Runner, and had 305/60R18 on the Tacoma. Both on aftermarket 9" wide rims.

 

I couldnt' remember if you had aftermarket or stock wheels, but I remember the wide ass tires you had without a lift.

 

Tacoma had a lift. At the time, it was just a spacer lift with AALs

 

For you Taco, what was the offset of that rim, if you remember? That and, what other stuff did you have to cut/bend?

The rim was 18x9" +0. I had the cab mount chop, removed the front mud flaps, and moved the plastic forward at the front of the wheel well.

oh, that's not too bad at all. What tires are those by the way? I'd love to run Wildpeaks, but they only have 285/70r17 or 285/75r17 or 315/70r17

 

They were the original Nitro Terra Grapplers. I think they make the new version in the same size.
