Harbor freight. But I bought them when I had my g37. Now I need taller ones for the Tacoma. They barely do anything cause the frame is so high.

    4 run, 2 don't
    For sure.

We can't assume people know what's appropriate to use and what isn't, as far as safety goes.

I'm a fan of using multiple jack stands; sucks 2 got stolen and another 2 stayed at my old house :pout:

It might be the manager's discretion but believe they are still accepting them. I found and exchanged a set a month ago

Get those recalled beasts back to HF, they should take them still, from what I remember.

I always use double. Whatever you use, do a bit extra and test the vehicle before getting under it, please.

Lost my cousin a few years back under a car when his lift method failed. Extra stands, proper stands, and a good test before crawling under is always worth it.

I would think that if they recalled them (twice now?) they would want to get ALL of them out of circulation. I imagine the return window will remain open for quite some time, but I could be wrong. While I realize this is merely anecdotal, I watched a couple of youtube videos where people illustrated the failure mode...the pawl was barely engaging the post...we're talking about 1mm or less of purchase.

I ended up buying some house-brand 6 ton stands from autozone (carquest I believe? they are blue). I opened the box in the store and inspected them with the guys working there. I was satisfied that they were built correctly and would be extremely unlikely to fail if used properly, so I bought them and have thus far been happy with my purchase. I did also buy a 3 ton jack from HF (bright green, so I see it before I trip over it in the garage ;)). I greased the zerks and topped off the hydraulic oil and have been very happy with that purchase as well. The combo of 6 ton stands and a good shop jack (and an impact wrench) has been a game changer. My willingness and ability to tackle jobs has increased significantly.

I got a brandnew floor jack(Pittsburgh) from HF for half......the box had holes and was beat up....but it was unused/undamaged.....
It was back in the return/scratch/dent area......
They recently expanded into the new Daytona line....and they are selling a ton of these...huge volume.....lots of crumbs......$69 for my 3 ton....
Even scotty's got one in his videos.....

They had a return tranny jack too.....but only taking $30 off.........

If you have a 4x4, just save yourself the trouble and get the 12 tons. As said, not for the weight, but for the height.

If you need to do any work on your suspension, you need the height so you can support the frame and let the suspension fully droop.

Harbor freight ones are perfectly fine, but if you find some from your local auto parts store, those will be fine too. Maybe just avoid Amazon specials. These are jack stands, it's not rocket science.

Sorry to hear about your cousin. I appreciate you reminding us of how serious it is to work under a car.
Question: How does one set up extra stands? I think it would be very difficult to position a backup set in such a way that they would have a good chance of catching a falling vehicle if the first set failed. I'm not saying it's a bad idea, but it seems like some luck would be involved for them to function as a useful backup.

On a related note, I was always taught to put a wheel under the car when changing a tire, so that if the shitty scissor jack fails, the car will land on the wheel instead of the ground (or a body part). In practice, I use ramps and chocks if I don't need to remove wheels, and if I do remove a wheel, I always position it to catch the vehicle.

I think that was for the 3 or 6 ton ones.

The 12 tons were fine IIRC...

Only certain ones did, there's an exact serial number range for the recalled ones. The 6 ton ones without the rubber tips on the handles were part of the recall, but of course those can come off so verify via the serial number.

Mine weren't part of the recall...I think some 3 ton ones got recalled too

If anyone opens this looking for actual recommendations... I run the Duralast 6 ton's here. The 3-ton stands will probably be fine (as the stock truck max weighs 4500lbs), but the 6's are taller, wider and fit much easier under a lifted truck.

6 ton Duralast stands from Autozone. Was in a pinch and needed them quick/locally since my old 3 ton stands were too short. They work okay but aren't anything special. If I had more time I would look for 6 or 12 ton stands with the cross-pin for better safety.

Yes, that's what I have! Earlier in the thread, I incorrectly thought mine were carquest, but that is the house brand of advance auto, and I distinctly remember buying mine at the zone..

Having options is always good.....like cut 2 x12 strips of lumber...couple feet long....
4x6's, 6x6's, 8x8"'s, so I always have infinite cribbing options...

Having tall jacks just for support extreme front/back is nice....

I know a number truck owners carry a floor jack with em all the time.....
IF mine was a 4x4 I would definitely do that.....

I have a 2ton one that came with its own plastic case......got from an old boss....
