Are these OEM body mounts? Is having that much space normal? Are these body spacers? Wanting to replace them. TIA

And yes that space is normal, it allows the body to go up slightly think of it kinda like suspension for your cab off the frame reduces noise vibration and harshness.

That said they are toast time to replace them, I recommend the Energy Suspension body mount kit and doing the body mount flip along with the oversized core support mounts.

Gives you a tiny 1/2 body lift and prevents the taco body lean from reoccurring.

Is there a link to a DIY for the flip and replacement?

What even is that? I've never heard of a body mount flip for 1st gens.

How does a body mount prevent taco lean? That's the suspension sagging from all the weight of the driver/gas tank on one side.

The energy suspension body mounts have two parts of the whole one is 2/3 the thickness and the other is 1/3 the thickness of the polyurethane bushing assembly, per instructions the thin part goes on the top the thick on bottom, you reverse that and it gives you a tiny lift.

The Taco lean is due to the heavy items (Battery, front diff transfer case and shaft driver and fuel tank) being left justified constantly loading the drivers side and compression tbe suspension, but the things in the body, battery and driver compress the body mounts more and squish them so both the suspension and the body mounts are more saggy on that side, replacing the body mounts helps in part by correcting that factor of the lean.

I didn't see anything in the OP's sig, but just be aware that the ES kits don't play well with double cabs. There are a few threads with detail out the issues, but If you have a double cab, might be less hassle to go for OEM or 4Crawler (0" lift option). Or probably just 4Crawler in general cause they have great products.

    gotcha.

Only problem I'd see with this is the alignment of your bumpers etc... Traditional body lifts come with brackets that re-mount your bumpers to stay in line.

I've only heard of using a 5mm spacer on the left side coilover, or if you have adjustable coilovers to crank that side up a little. That, or running all your other stuff like tools, jacks, compressors, etc on the passenger side to even it out. Or get a girlfriend who's "big boned."

I'd think your body mounts would have to be seriously worn out (and only on one side) for you to notice any sort of lean just form the body mounts unless you're using dial calipers to take your measurements. Poly bushings would theoretically address that, but at what cost? Personally, I would avoid poly bushings for body mounts unless you want to feel every rattle and road bump. I noticed a difference in the ride when I went to poly suspension bushings. Poly body mounts you might as well just hard mount the body direct to the frame, lol.

Your typical body lift is 2"+, 3/8- 1/2" is barely noticeable, I have my mounts flipped and you'ed never be able to tell based on bumper gaps or whatever unless you were looking for it.

My old mounts on my drivers side were 7/16 more more crushed than my passengers side when I measured and installed the poly mounts, the front left core support and front left body mounts were completely collapsed to the point where the bonded top washer was making contact with the steel of the mounts.

Polyurethane is made in many different durometers for their applications, the ES Poly body mount bushings are slightly more firm than stock but softer than suspension bushings. It's not like riding on hockey pucks or static mounted and flipping the mount give some more cushion as well.

I didn't notice a change going to poly body bushings like I did getting poly suspension bushings.

    But YMMV.

When I did my ES body bushings, I had to trim down all but the radiator bushing sleeves because they were too long for my Xtracab. The bushings themselves were all correct, but trimming about 1/2" off of four of the six sleeves with a hacksaw added some time and frustration. Regarding the flip approach, I would think that swapping the orientation would give you more like 3/4-1" of lift. One portion of those bushings was way beefier than the other.

Thread revival. Questions for users who replaced their bushings with Energy (or anyone who wants to share their experience).

Why did you replace them? What are the most notable signs old bushings are done and need replacement?
Is there a noticeable ride quality/NVH difference between and old bushing and new polyurethane?
Isn't a polyurethane bushing harder/stiffer which might transfer more vibrations and noise from the road?

    Thanks in advance.
