Linear/aggressive throttle, smoother shifting, more power, same or better mpg.

The 2019 ECU was recently added, so we made all the changes that are on the KDMAx-Pro 4Runner tune. We have had great reviews on the 4Runner tune.

I know when I was looking into the tune I was overwhelmed by 200+ pages on this thread. I wasn't able to find any negative comments here or via google searches. I"m sure there are some but generally speaking if a product is bad, it will light up the web quickly. To help anyone deciding that has skipped to the end page (for now) here are my comments on my 2020 OR DCLB AT

Truly changes the truck for the better. I'm 1,200+ miles post-tune. Not a single complaint. What you'll notice pretty much immediately; stays in gear in a predictable manner (as you'd want). It's not 1000% cured of shifting but it's sure close(only a V8 would help these trucks!!!). The shifts themselves are exceptionally smoother-you'll notice it the first time you accelerate to the freeway, etc. MUCH more linear acceleration. I always noticed around 3,800 rpm the power band would "kick in", especially if you slow rolled on the gas. That is is 99.99% eliminated. Driving up mountain passes you can stay in 5th gear longer-avoiding constant shifting but also allowing you to maintain speed and you don't have to 'dance' around the pedal to fineness it. Also I am seeing it hold gear on descents allowing engine braking. It's honestly that good and I'm stoked I got the tune. I have 285/70/17 tires and it was recommended to get the sport throttle control. It's right under foot and while I don't have any tech numbers to back this up, I'd say you get lower end torque. Possibly more HP? I read somewhere that you get 22HP gain. The truck truly feels awesome. DO IT.

As far as better gas mileage. That is TBD. It 'could' slightly increase your mileage but my gut tells me that since it will hold gears longer you inevitably accelerate (over a mountain pass) where you'd maybe lag behind slower in 6th up a hill-probably saving fuel. So it really comes down to how heavy your foot is. But the drivability over stock is worth any loss you might get. I do think I'm getting the same if not slightly better but I am also running higher octane that I was stock. No reason other than why not get the full benefit of the motor and gas is 'so cheap' right now (especially in CA) so why the heck not!!!

(I have ZERO affiliation or connection the the KDMAX People).

Just pulled my Pedal Commander off my truck, so if my tuner is reading this, there's no turning back now!

Got my Pro tune last night with Normal throttle settings… and I can already say that the tune makes a big difference in drivability of my truck. So far, no more clunking downshifts when rolling up to a light and upshifts are so much smoother. Throttle response is fantastic too. Looking forward to many more miles on this bad boy. I will definitely update in a few weeks when I have more miles on it. Thank you developers and tuners!

Can someone clear up for me the term that gets kicked around about acceleration being "linear" ?

    Um Dum....

In short. The power feels smooth and consistent through the rpm’s. In my 2020, at 3,800 rpm the power felt like it would ‘jump’ or even felt like a turbo kicked in. Linear feeling simply means smooth and consistent. Progressive, not jerky or punchy.

Yeah... I think I get it ? Do some call it pedal lag ?
It feels to me when I press the accelerator, sometimes nothing happens right away, it then catches and we launch and I feel like an idiot with no finesse or control of my truck...

Getting the tune will take that away. That’s not necessarily what I am referring to with linear however. To me, the tune just makes the truck feel smooth through all gears and shifting is also much smoother. The linear power however, it’s just a smooth progression rather than anything that spikes up and down or any sudden unexpected peaks and valleys of your power.

get the tune, I would be shocked if you didn’t enjoy it. I have absolutely no affiliation with Kdmax or anyone else

    Getting tuned this weekend.
Considering the Sport or the Normal.
Lifelong Mercedes/BMW/Audi driver. Happily converted but the truck is SLOW compared to what I’m used to. I don’t have a lead foot but I enjoy good pickup and decent speed- especially since I live in the Bay Area and drivers need to be fairly aggressive. My ‘17 SR5 will be my daily driver (~100 miles/day)- no racks, tents, built in stovetops or hot tubs planned as of right now.

What’s the best option for me?
