Saw a couple X1's out at King of the Hammers. Talked to one of the guys who had it on a Tundra. Then saw another 2nd gen Taco with a white one. Also.. the camper held up great through the abuse we put it through. Crawling. High speed washes. Rompin through some Dunes. Hasn't moved with my front bar keeping it from shifting. Only very minor dust intrusion.. even in the dustiest of environments of KOH. Need to seal the little cubbies better.. but other than that.. it worked out great. So nice having a clean dry place. Tons of room for storage. Had our 12v water hooked up for washing up. No vibes or contact on anything. Just solid. Super stoked on the entire setup. Was the first big shakedown since the 35s, camper, and bumper. It's heavy.. but still does it's job.. even better so now with the weight it seems.

They were working on my camper today. Need to see if any photos but I have a couple pouches and used it to mount a fuse block and planned to add an inverter.

 

Nice I was chatting with Randy today. They swing by on their way back up to Oregon. Made some updates and moved my X1 back. Biggest issue still is that front area. they should adopt your mod for all second gens.

 

Seeing as this is a major investment, how viable is it to eventually move it from like a gen2 to a gen3? Are there major differences in the builds?

 

They are cheapie usb led strip lights from Amazon. I hard wired them direct. They seem to work great especially for the price.

 

From my understanding it's identical. There shouldn't really be any issues if you want to transfer it to your future 3G

 

It would just be material needed or removed under the camper for the height (bed depth) difference.

 

I'm visiting the their shop today, I'll try and remember and ask about the 2nd Gen to 3rd Gen jump. I'll post what they say (provided I remember to ask).

 

It's literally the exact same as long as your bed length matches. Maybe slightly less bulb seal but that's it, but why would anyone want to get rid of a 2nd Gen anyways?

 

The biggest thing as @XPOTRPR pointed out. The bed heights are different. The X1 itself is the same. The front is lower which is an issue for me as it has nothing to prevent it from moving forward. @XPOTRPR created a nice update on his that should be a standard for all 2nd gen builds.

 

It does work great.. and I would agree it should be implemented.. but maybe something slightly different in terms of attaching it. I'm sure they don't want to have to drill holes in each 2nd gen they install these on. I'm sure they will come out with a no drill or reversible installation of something similar to my bar.

They drill holes in 1st gens right now for installation. I don't think they are against it. They considered drilling holes in my side on monday.

 

funny you just happened to want one too. We'll all have to get together so you can check it out.

Ahh true true. Well.. then there we go. I've got models and programs ready for them! I'll take some stock in SP for a trade. Lol

 

The much anticipated email arrived. Just put our 75% deposit down. Let the 12-14 week estimated wait time begin.

Thanks to each of you for all your help, both directly and indirectly. All 286 pages of this thread helped me decide to buy an SP. And a build spot came through Expedition Portal a few months back. Super stoked.

Now to decide between OD green or gray ......

 

No movement from the front bar on my truck after some spirited Dune rippin. Inside camper clamps haven't moved either.




And my one side is setup for air/water.. but I plan on getting a 2nd panel for the other side and then separate my air and water.. plus add some other goodies, including the 12v water pump itself. My spare CV, tierods, tools, air tank, etc are all in the tool bag on the floor in front of the fridge. I'm going to make a custom aluminum tool box to sit in front of the water tank and fill the gap between fender wells. This will double as a bench as well. That will allow me to get the tool bag out of there.. then The air tank will be mounted horizontally in front of the fridge as well on the camper/t slot rails to free up that floor space. That will be temporary as well until I finish the dual air compressor setup. Should free up a ton of space after those 2 big things are sorted out.



We were loaded on the way for sure. 3 people worth plus gear and tools.

 

Got my own water intrusion story to tell, and see if anyone has figured anything out. Whenever it's been rainy at all out (which we obviously get here in Seattle...frequently), water gets into the top of the camper. However, for the life of me I can't figure out exactly where! It's just generally wet everywhere. Almost seems like condensation, but x1,000. I've sealed all the corners where the keder track curves and leaves a little daylight with quite a bit of butyl tape, but it doesn't seem to have mitigated the issue much at all.

I reached out to SP, but figured that folks here have a decent amount of real world experience with it too.

Thoughts?

 

Looks like condensation to me, only other place would be from the seam on the upper most part of the roof. Next time you're out try putting a piece of painters tape up there to channel the water away from a spot. If the spot is dry, it's leaking from the seam. If everything is still wet like that it's condensation. Are all the vents open?

 

Vents aren't open, but this really only happens when the entire tent is closed down. As in, I'll come out and open up the tent after the truck's been sitting for a few days in my driveway and it'll be like this. Or when I get to a destination, I'll park and open the tent and it's like this.
