I don't hunt anymore never hunted things that could eat me either! Have seen them in the wild! Once a Girl brought in a 600 lb Black bear she shot! Her boy friend did not want to take her so she went out with another girl and got it! Boy friend got nothing!! She has people from different areas sell them to her. I have seen her buy $2,000.00-$3,000.00 at once! In a few months there all gone again? Your buddy can email her and tell her what he has to sell. She grades them and that is how there paid for. People who sell Dog Chews on Amazon have her cut up and package them and ship back to Amazon to be sold. She has so many ways to make money. over 50,000 sales on Etsy! $500-$3,000.00 a day are normal sales. More at Christmas!!

Last fall I drove past a scene where another motorist had hit a Bobcat. The cat was there, dead on the side of the road. The drive. a young gal was out of her car and all diastraught.

I stopped and took a couple of pics with the phone camera. But when I reviewed the pics, they were just so depressing. "A dead cat laying on the side of the road". ... They were deleted from the phone.

But they still exist inside my head. 'can't seem to shake 'em.
I think the name was Bob, or might have been Roberta.

    Good morning fellow Porchatonians!

Yesterday's warmer temps made it possible to get the majority of the ice off the driveway - only another 350 ft to clear.

We have a bobcat that wanders our property and several black bear, plus the normal deer, turkey and pheasant. We also have some coyotes - only ever seen one on our property but I hear them often at night.

    Stay safe and warm

Good luck on the driveway ice, Mark. We have 3" under 2" of snow. I worked on it yesterday and today until it started to re-freeze in the evening. I've been using a spud bar to slide under, lift up to break the bond, and shovel it off. Slow going, but I'm persistent. Maybe a couple more days, depending on the weather. I Have enough done to get delivery vehicles off the road. We get most everything delivered since Covid, so the driveway and satellite dish for communication are top priority.

Morning sixties gang. An awesome letter arrived in our mailbox the other day from the State retirement system. Letter congratulated me for reaching my superannuation age for my retirement with no reduction in annuity benefits until the day I no longer walk this earth! I just need 23 more months to get my insurance and I am golden! Man this is a great feeling! Happy Tuesday all!

Yay...after about 150 lbs. of rock salt and calcium since Saturday, as of yesterday I can actually see the blacktop of our driveway and sidewalk!
It was enough to loosen everything and I just scraped it with a metal shovel and pushed it all away with the quad.

Those lions are so sneaky they can live just about anywhere. About 25 years ago, Wyoming G&F reported that 2 or 3 were living inside the city limits of Casper. My brother-in-law was managing the Holiday Inn at the time and one was found to be denned up under the I-25 bridge across from the hotel. Apparently had been there for quite a while. Snarled at a city employe doing trash patrol along the N.Platte river. Darted the rascal and moved him out to N.F. somewhere.

Security cameras keep seeing them wandering around houses here on the edges of Tucson - often shown on the evening news drinking out of pools. They have little tolerance for guard dogs - killed a couple of them about a half mile from our house when we first moved here.

I think it was a baby shower, bridal shower, and a wedding celebration all rolled into one. Might have been part of a housewarming party too. LOL Dam C19 has been brutal in many ways. Yes, my wife went overboard on gifts for the youngest flower girl at our wedding and her husband. I expected no other result. I love her dearly.

Agreed! I was born in DC and have lived in a suburban setting almost all my life. Lots of members in this post have larger living areas and I think that is great. I especially like the pictures everyone shares. It is all about what you are used to.

Carl, you have the cost down correctly. Hey, you now have a new tool, got to love that.

Kudos to your daughter! I try to buy from small American businesses when I can. Even a small sale adds up to a larger total at the end of the day.

Today is a BJ's shopping run, guitar practice, and lunch with an old friend at 12:30. Not that busy but it is only Tuesday.

    Good news...

Now... down to business. I have to lay about a hundred and fifty feet of direct bury/underground wire to a pole barn and it has to run 100 amp service and a 220 compressor. Would you be so kind as to get pretty specific about what I should use and where to get it? Anything I should know about direct bury that would make my efforts come out better? Thanks in advance.

    Morning all:
Was just reading an interesting article. A girl in Alaska was running her dog sled to practice for the Iditarod when a bull moose attacked, she shot at it with a .380 which didn't even phase it. I would think that someone would carry a much bigger caliber weapon in Alaska just in case, all that .380 would do is piss off whatever she needs to protect herself from, which I believe she now realizes! The article said the moose was stomping on the dogs and came after her several times, I don't think that it killed any of the dogs, but some of them were busted up and needed to be patched up by a vet., she did manage to get a phone call out and someone came with a rifle and dispatched the moose.
I find stories like this fascinating, anyone remember a page in either Sports afield or Outdoor Life titled "this happened to me" that described incidents like this with drawings depicting the ordeal, those were always interesting to read.

I had fixed those faucets a long time ago Tom, think one of my buddies had the tool to do it, if the fix lasts as long as the last one did, I will probably never get to use the new tool again, but at least now I have it!

I saw a wolverine a couple of years ago and reported it to the DNR, and mentioned it around town... and got nothing but scepticism. "Ther aren't no wolverines around here." But I knew there had been an older male caught on wildlife cameras a hundred and fiftyish miles north in the Uintas a few years ago and I know what I saw.
Last summer they caught the little bastard on a security cam walking in a neighborhood.
Still have yet to see a cougar in the wild although I've smelled them more than once.

Don't discount small caliber so easily. It can be more about shot placement. The world record Grizzly bear was taken by a single shot 22.

A little something every chance we get.
:pccoffee: Good Morning Porchies! Got in my required steps, put up all the freeze stuff, and got the Garmin tucked into the RAV. Hearing aid follow up this morning - need a couple tweaks. Looks like a great 67* day to use the smoker on some steaks tonight!
Congrats Doug! Retired is a great occupation!
I used the blower to move what was left of the rock salt. Might have to get a broom for the rest! :anonymous:
I won't be the last one to say so, but I love hearing about what people have done or are doing - many cases inspire me to try something I hadn't thought of. I'll find a pic later, but @Devious6 greenhouse inspired my greenhouse modification last summer, for example!
    Have a great day everyone.

I would put this in pvc but you do what you want. Up a size in wire to 1-1-1-3 USE Al. Dig ditch 24 inches, line with stone dust before laying wire, cover with 8/12 inches stone dust. Install ditch tape before backfilling dirt.

Inch and a half PVC? So it's easier to pull? Yeah, I've considered that. I suppose it would be cheap enough just in case there was some kind of problem.

    And thanks...

(Now, if I can just figure out what 1-1-1-3 AI means...LOL)

1 gauge on HOTs & Neutral (you have two hots, one neutral) 3 is GROUND. You only want Neutral and Ground boned (tied together) at the main feed

Conduit run to make it easier if you ever need to replace and if digging someone will hopefully stop at the conduit.

At the ends, tape RED & BLACK (hots) and WHITE (Neutral). The ground should always be green.

Mountain Lions. Native to this part of Texas. They have a 70-mile roaming territory. Wide creek, limestone walls. Lots of dens. Nice hiking trails. People have moved into the area, fewer mountain lion spottings.

I was out hiking with my dog, twenty years ago, when he stopped, and like spring built into his feet jumped and spun 180 degrees. At first, I am "let's go" but stopped and realized every hair on his body was one end, making him appear bigger. 20' away was a big cat crouched down staring at us. Once we locked eyes it was like the cat stood up and just walked a large arc around us. Good doggie!

My faithful Hovawart (think Rottweiler & Golden Retreiver). He was always standing guard, sadly lost him to cancer. Great Dog. upload_2022-2-8_9-59-39.jpg
