I don't have issues with the bank CEO. He was smart enough to go to college and worked his way through his chosen industry gaining the experience and reputation to hold the position of responsibility he has. Just because he didn't gain his experience on a construction site doesn't mean he didn't work to get to the position he is in.

My issue lies with the 20 somethings who feel they deserve (a word I have come to despise) an office, computer and company car without paying the dues to get it.

I don't disagree, and we do a ton of maintenance on our 100 or so buildings, however...

It was built in 1963 so while "old", it's not exactly historical.
It's a chemistry building that doesn't have enough supply air to properly ventilate the fume hoods.
    There's asbestos everywhere.

At some point, repairing isn't feasible anymore and it needs to go. We've limped it along for a while but it was time.

Completely understand, still sad though not necessarily from the historical standpoint.

When I see an old building coming down I always imagine the men who built it packing up their tools on the last day and walking away proud of their work.

After our conversation a few weeks ago curiosity got the better of me and I was pleased to find this at my local Mart. Much thicker than whatever the wife usually buys and the jar was full to the top.

I've told Cole to get a job working with his head and not his back, don't think he'll listen to me on that one. They learn from example :anonymous:

I had Duke's for the first time when we were in Florida. It tasted like Hellmann's to me.

Not that that's a bad thing.

Many of us made our way by working hard with our back and essentially painted ourselves into a corner, we could always get work - the same heavy work - as you get older the hammers get heavier and the ladders more wobbly.

What I have told the kids is to get a job they can mature in to. I have pushed the HVAC trade many times, when young you can work in the field and have an almost unlimited ability to learn. As the years go on you take that knowledge and move to sizing jobs, tech support or sales. Wish I had gone that way.:sadviolin:

(Wish in one hand and poop in the other - see which one fills up first )

I worked for an HVAC company for 2 years after high school as an installer, I couldn't stand it. My knees couldn't take it was the biggest thing. I've always had bad knees, especially the left one.

I have allergies therefore a very poor sense of smell and taste, my cooking tends to be quite heavy handed. I really can't tell much of a difference between many products. The novelty of having Southern mayo is worth something though.

I never really put it together until the kid who worked for me said "some people might not like quite so much garlic and pepper...."

It matters not what work anyone does as Long as You enjoy what your doing.. I was happy running a Millwright crew I most likely could have risen higher in management but that was never me

I know quite a few who work with there heads that hate the job

I can also see Money is not that important to me I was offered a Job in New York City with a crazy Salary downside was living there.

That's exactly why my wife went back to school. Watching some of her coworkers, she knew she couldn't take being an RN when she was 60 but as an NP, she doesn't have to do the heavy lifting, just the heavy thinking. :)

That's me now, I could make more somewhere else but I'm happy here. I've been places where I wasn't happy, don't want to go there again.

I swear I worked with the real Life Sanford and Son a long time ago.

If cell phones tech was around it would have been a hit .

They did the grunt work so me and a helper could do the repair fabrication .

They showed up late and never took notice to our truck so they are thinking sit down have some coffee before starting I thought the owner of the company was going to explode.
