My dog is a masochist; The neighbor's cat swiped him on the nose once, and he will still walk right up to the little bastard!

Centralia seems/sounds like a town/community right out of The Walking Dead.

Also, I have a feeling that if we had a zombie apocalypse, an ideal post-apocalyptic Anytown, USA would look more like the Pittsburgh suburbs or the fictional Massachusetts town of Lincoln in The Last Of Us...

These are obviously screenshots from the first game, because Joel Miller was killed fairly early in the second game and you play as Ellie for most of it; I do not, however, know if these screenshots are from Pittsburgh or Massachusetts.

Yellow Dog Village in Western PA looks more like something out of The Walking Dead than Centralia, and honestly looks like it good have been the inspiration for the suburban Pittsburgh neighborhood in The Last of Us...

Unlike Centralia, Pennsylvania and Picher, Oklahoma, which were both effectively ruined by environmental disasters, this little village seems to have been simply abandoned due economic downturn...

I only started researching Yellow Dog Village yesterday; It would appear that unlike Centralia, the land is privately owned and was sold off to another private owner on one deed. It was open to the public, but I have no idea if it still is; Even if is still open to the public, it's still almost five hours away from me, practically in Pittsburgh! Impulsively driving two hours to explore a ghost town and then another two hours back (actually more because I stopped in Lehigh to visit my cousin, her kid, and my aunt) in the same day, is way different than driving five hours somewhere and five hours back in the same day for the same reason! I've got no family in Pittsburgh or the surrounding area, and this would likely require me to get a hotel because I've never done 10 hours round trip before! Also, I have no way of knowing if the village is accessible by vehicle or on foot, or if it's fenced off...

If there were a huge car show in the Pittsburgh area that was worth spending the entire weekend in the area, then it would be a worthwhile side trip; However, five hours to find what'll possibly be a literal dead end is not worth it in my opinion! :(

Frick's Lock is another place much closer to me than Centralia that I'd also love to visit; My friends have been there before...

However, while it was fairly easy to get in maybe a decade ago, PECO (which owns the land) really clamped down on unauthorized visits; I read a horror story (in my opinion) about a guy who almost got arrested by the police for trespassing, along with his lady friend while exploring Frick's Lock, and the only thing that kept them both out of handcuffs was the fact that the guy knew the right people and dropped a name or two. I know the right people to get me out of trouble here in Central Bucks, but not up where Frick's Lock is located, and I still get "triggered" when asked for ID in certain situations ever since the one and only time I got stopped by police for taking pictures back in 2013; That said, I'm afraid to visit Frick's Lock!

And then there's Pennhurst Asylum, but it has been repurposed as a haunted attraction and is only open in the fall; I would love to visit there sometime, but it doesn't give me the same vicarious thrill that I get from visiting a place like Centralia...

I did some research, and there are several "Ghost Towns" in New Jersey that are open to the public, but like the asylum mentioned above they have been turned into dedicated tourist attractions; It is 100% legal to go there and take pictures, and I do plan on visiting once it gets warmer, but it still lacks the allure of a legit ghost town like Centralia or Frick's Lock...
