Not to hijack but if you're looking for a URD short throw kit shoot me a PM. I bought the 2016+ kit for my '21 but never put it in as the stock throw is fine for my long arms.

the URD went soft on me after about a year & a half of use with a ~500g knob. i'm on the Core now. about 2 million times better in every way.

I've been looking at the URD short throw... can you describe more what you mean by "went soft"? As in, it doesn't tend to hold the gear correctly? When you removed it do you recall what part(s) wore or loosened to cause the URD to go soft?

i think it's typical that these SS kits often wear and lose definition in the shifting and how well the shifter arm seats when in gear. like previous SS kits on other vehicles mine lost a lot of definition in the first year, and the arm would have some play and wobble around when in gear a bit. i just find it sloppy and i know there are firmer and clearer setups.

I'm referring to the shifter arm having play, so it's not taking the trans out of gear, there's no problem like that here.

i removed the OE shifter assembly with the URD kit installed already, and sent the whole thing to a guy on here somewhere. i didn't disassemble it.

I see. Thx for the additional notes. Yeah, reading the URD SS kit install instrucs it says to red-loctite AND stake the set screws during install, making it hard to disassemble & go back to stock config. I'm staying stock unless/until I happen to get a chance to test-drive someone's Core Shift setup in a 2nd gen.

yeah i now would skip the SS kits and do a Core shifter first. is there something about it you're unsure of?

The cost... :spending: (~2.5x more than URD SS.) It would have to be super-compelling for me to justify it to myself. My truck isn't a racer or off-roader, mostly just daily driving, and infrequent at that. Maybe 3-4K miles a year.

Interesting.... first I have seen this one. Looks like a nice unit. I guess if my URD shifter ever fails I will look at this one, but so far, with 4+ years and well over 50,000kms I have zero issue with the current set up. Still just as I installed it.

Just curious, I have the URD with a 500g knob and am very happy with the results and shifting.

When you dis-assembled to install the Core Shifter, what was the problem with the URD?

Curious to know -- how many years & how many miles do you have on your URD SS install?

Is the B&M fully-reversible, i.e. can it be removed without damaging any of the B&M parts? (Or does it require red loctite and/or staking set screws, like the URD SS kit does.)

Fully reversible, it is a complete shifter and base that replaces the stock components.

Edit- added the only pic I took of the B&M shifter installed.

Bookmarked. Nice photo. We'll see how much patience I have.. I might wait a year or so & ask you again how it's holding up. Unless others here who've done the B&M SS have had it in for >1 year or more chime in w/ positive experiences.

I think the B&M is the direction I will go.

It would be great if someone could do a comparison of the Hurst core and b&m but I've searched and cant find anything. Manual owners are hard to come by, manual owners with short shifters- harder. Manual owners that have experienced both- that's asking a lot.

I did find some old reviews from second gen owners and will take some time to read those... I think the shifter was released for a couple years then pulled from market and appears to have been re-released at some time- unsure if its the same shifter or redesigned. There were complaints of noise in cabin with that one as well (like the hurst).

So I'll just go with my gut on this one. Its a nice design from a company that's been a go-to for shifters for a long time (not that hurst hasn't). I think its a fairly new part number for the 3rd gens and before that hurst core was the only option for a quality short shifter. Urd is a spacer kit, not a shifter as an assembly.

I believe this is a redesign for the B&M form the 2nd gen. So far there is no noise from the shifter as it has an isolated shaft, one of the reasons I decided to go with it. One other thing is the B&M is eiser to put in reverse over the URD. Wasn't a big deal for me but, if my wife drove the truck she'd have to use both hands to overcome the reverse detent. Reverse with the B&M is like stock.

i appreciate this. but, interestingly, these are two of my top reasons for preferring the Core. different strokes...

i like the effort required for reverse, and i definitely did not want the isolated shaft after dealing with that with the OE unit. i don't mind some NVH, my whole truck is reinforced and it fits right in, super direct everything. but i do understand that's not for everyone, but the SS kits are just not so great comparatively. the B&M fits right in between the two options and also looks super nice.
