True. Survived living in Northern Buttf#%^ Alberta without one. I’m thinking I may be fine in Onterrible too.

You’ll be fine without in the Onterrible, I’ve had ARB before but sold it after some time. It was too much weight up front and was sticking too far for my off-road needs. Custom bumper ended up being lighter but still too much weight, ended up just doing winch cradle and calling it a day. I beat on my truck more than anyone ever will, and can confidently say that massive steel front bumpers overrated :lalala::crapstorm:

Good. I like the way you think. I want to keep it simple, practical and not overdo it. I’m already going outside my arcs getting a winch, never needed one, but I’m thinking of hitting some trails (and I’m usually a lone wolf), I want some insurance. With that being said, I like the semi hidden - less weight and when I pick my kid up from school I don’t want to be pulling up in a Mad Max vehicle.

Don't worry. It takes years of butchery to turn the Tacoma into a Mad Max vehicle:

Until you eat a moose. just get a 40" lightbar to light the way!

But otherwise - if you're getting a bumper, just make sure it's bolted on well and you'll be fine. i have the SSO slimline and it's a heavy pig. the Warn bumper IIRC is much lighter ona 2nd gen than the 3rd so you're be loving life. Winch is good - save some weight and get synthetic lines if you haven't already. don't get some fancy crazy F55 winch link, not worth spending money on other than looking "cool" points. the stock hook is (more or less) good enough (until it falls off which then you're still not entirely fucked. since you're Naval you should be good with rigging and knots :D ) Everyone is moving over to synthetic for offroading, there will always be steel line die-hards but overall Synth > Steel

it's easy to go over GVMR and i've been hoping to cut down where i can/ need to.

I picked up a Warn VR Evo 10-S yesterday. I know next to shit about it, but I think 10,000 will do the job.

My knot skills need work but my landnav and driving skills are still good. I left the army for the navy because I heard the food was better.

10,000 is more than enough. just look at different splicing methods incase the winch line itself breaks.
Apparently factor 55 did a test and Splicing yeilds the best strength. but i also am currious of why the Double fisherman did better on the 12mm rope instead of the 10mm dyneema..

Food i've heard is tons better. My sister was on base in Kingston and the best thing on the Caf menu was rice crispy cereal...

    Perfect.

The taxpayer funded feeding of my fat ass has my standards pretty low in pretty much all aspects of my life, but I confirm that Navy food is way better.

If you have an f55 link, your no longer a common overlander you are now in the higher eschelons of terrain travel. While sipping your tea, you camly say " winch in my dear boy, winch in" :) and mind you don't scratch my 55 ole chap...

It's all in good fun dude...
