I definitely heed the advice of the man from Montana, and getting a modest lift and going one step up in tire size should give me good clearance and get me some better angles all around, not as good as yours, but they'll get me to most places I want to be.

I am one of those weirdos who looks at weight as a primary criteria(Light RWD cars are my true love), but I guess in this application you're trying to find a balance between flotation and traction.

The reason I was leaning towards the M/Ts was that I like having dedicated things for the purpose, but E load A/Ts probably could do everything an M/T can that you'd need. Tire Rack claims that the Cooper Evolution M/T E-load range in the 265/75/16 size weighs 48 lbs, which is pretty light for that class and one of the main reasons I was leaning that direction. Maybe get it siped, and put that on a lightweight 18lb wheel, and you're looking at somewhere around 66-67lbs total a corner and have a pretty capable tire, or 330lbs or so total. Add a tune, and I am hoping not to totally kill the balance/efficiency along with this new lift. If you have any thoughts on this initial combo to dive into this world, I would love to hear them.

E rated are stiff. I run them. I love them. Many don't. Just know what you are getting into. You will feel every, single, bump.

I plan on going with some mickey thompson Baja mt's next time, because next winter I'll be running dedicated snows. I've ran mt's in the past. Nothing against them. Either one are good enough for my use. The Bajas in 295 are some beefy bois and I figure I already sent it on the lift, gears, and tune... So why not :spending:

Can't wait to see what you end up with!

If you really want them I'll do that when I can get in, shouldn't be more than $15-20.

I'm going to the local Yota today to see what the lift deal is and clarify some things. Working for a competing dealer, I 100% promise I will not be participating in any corporate espionage whatsoever.

My only real experience in the O/R world was working on XJs with my friend who swore by those Mickey Thompson M/Ts. They worked great in the loose Florida sand and Ocala trails, I bet they would work fine for your needs. You've never lived if you never experienced Jeep death wobble and spent hours cursing while you bang around on the steering and suspension.

I don't mind stiff rides, coming from the RWD track/drift car world, but there's a point of diminishing returns though where too stiff can hinder things like grip and weight transfer etc. I don't know how much of that stuff I learned transfers over to this application. I just don't want to make poor decisions and I appreciate you and your input.

I'm excited to see what those beefy bois look like and what they'll do. I will definitely create a build thread like you did ("Built with other people's manufacturing and labor, not bought bro").

Edit: PS, what are your thoughts on Patagonias? I watch Matt's OR Recovery and he swears by them for general off road use.

This is helpful Montana Actual. I did notice the MPG reducing with the new tires (265/75/16). So you believe the tune will get it back up a bit?

I’ll do it if it truly gives it a bump.

careful. I got a Kdmax tune and my mpgs were the same to slightly reduced. However, it is driving like a dream machine, highly worth it and way more fun to drive. I have the oem lift with ko2 265/70/17 and no longer thinking I need 4.88 gears.

Thanks brother. I also have the OEM lift and with slightly different KO2’s 265/75/16.

    Much food for thought.

Can you share as best you can as to what you’re feeling differently with the tune?

Tuner said the mpg difference is variable and depends on driving habits. Some people get better mpgs, others worse, most about the same. There no pedal lag, the truck feels more powerful. It holds the gears longer while getting up to speed with no inappropriate down shifting while providing extremely smooth shifting. I doesn’t work with radar cruise control, with that active, truck reverts back to its old tune for some reason but works with standard cruise control. Cost may be prohibitive for some and finding a tuner isn’t always easy. Visit the Kdmax pro thread to get more info and ask if there is a tuner in your area. It’s the best mod I did. Dealers can’t really discover this mod so I wouldn’t worry too much about the warranty and you can always go back to the stock tune if you’re unhappy.

Same to slightly reduced MPG with an additional 15-20lbs a corner, a lift and better performance still sounds pretty decent to me. That last part is pretty awesome too.

Edit: Interesting it doesn't work with the radar CC. So the tune just reverts back and forth from stock to KDmax when RCC is turned on and off?

Hope y'all are having a wonderful day. My question is after I do get this lift, what is the recommended wheel and tire size? I have heard about about wheels rubbing and I don't want that to happen

255/80/16, 265/75/16, 265/70/17 will all work without rubbing. You might be able to get away with 275/70/17, as well, but tire options in that size are somewhat limited.

You’ll also need to consider what load rating you want to go with. Heavier tires will impact your MPG and acceleration. Stiffer tires will impact ride quality.

I personally went with C load 265/70/17 KO2s, but it’s a personal preference type of decision.

there’s a great graphic on TW that answers your question. I’ve been trying to find it but you know, work stuff. I’ll post when I find it.

Found a dealer that would install the kit in my 2018 TRD OR for $2500. So, it can be done to a 2018. Apparently the directions in the kit say 2018+

The quote is $2396.XX OTD(I have a 9.5% sales tax) with five hours of labor and includes the alignment. The lift kit is 1468 after tax and the labor is $700(ye ole nice even round number). I think it's fair. I'm just going to do it and give them some business. Set appointment for the 22nd at 8:30 am(give the techs an hour to wake up from the crazy liquor and women parties the night before).

I appreciate the information and I saved it, but that wasn't me I don't think, it was "Sirmomis"? I see Sirmomis on the original post but me on your quotation? What is happening here? lol
