I guess it comes down to how much you see yourself using it and if it’s worth spending the extra $500-$600 or so, which is no small chunk of change. All I know is I am really happy with my Vulcan mig, which is really the only input I can provide. Plus if you wait, they’ve been running no restriction sales a lot recently so I bet sometime within the next month a coupon would pop up.

I’m an engineer so I also took diff eq and multivariable. I agree that I don’t do any calculus by hand anymore but I look at those courses similarly to learning to arithmetic before they let you use a calculator in school. It’s important to understand what is going on before you start just using the magic answer box

nowadays I typically let software do the hard math for me but I think it’s really important to understand the process to get there.

Of the ones I’ve considered, this has the most reviews and the least that say it blew up after the first couple uses. How is it on AC? Seems like many of the cheaper units are good on DC and hit or miss on AC.

I don’t own it yes but everything I’ve read and watched and everyone I’ve spoken to who owns one seems to have nothing but good things to say about it.

Plan is to purchase one next year.

I had an everlast and their warranty is garbage. You gotta pay to ship it to them and they won't tell you if your repair is covered under the warranty till they get it. Then you gotta pay to have it shipped back to you. I ended up paying full price + shipping for the part (gas regulator) before I got rid of it.

I sold my everlast and got a Lincoln from lowes with a 4 year warranty.

I also have the vulcan protig 205 with the 2 year warranty. It was $1000 out the door with the hf membership.

Being able to return the welder for any reason and just grab a new one off the shelf is a huge deal. I'm not advocating for any brand but I will say try and get something with local support.

Yeah, I've called twice, once on Sunday afternoon, and someone who did not have a foreign accent answered. I have trouble over the phone with the India based support staffs. I've worked with engineers from India, and in person usually no problem. But on the phone, I find myself guessing as to what I just heard.

As for the welder were talking about, the TIG225X, I have posted this before, but will again in case this latest person considers it. This welder is not for someone who likes the menu driven, "decisions made for me" options. It's a user driven system. I like that, and I also like the fact that if one knob goes bad, it's much less likely to mean repair costs exceeding machine value.

The stick welding is also really smooth. I had almost no stick experience, and arc starts and good beads came easy on this thing. The sound when welding is crisp and steady.

Had mine almost 3 years now with no issues at a high hobby usage rate.

Long shot but I am working on a parking structure repair project in which we need a mobile welder certified in both AWS D1.1 (Structural Steel) and AWS D1.6 (Structural Stainless steel). Project is located in Daytona Beach Florida. I have called all mobile welders with a website located within 150 miles and keep striking out. Looking for someone available in the near future approximately 2-3 weeks. Scope of work is replacing/repairing stainless steel tee to tee flange connections on the top level of a garage. I estimate approximately 700 connections requiring repair. If not certified, the company I work for will pay for certs.

If anyone can help make a recommendation, even if it is a stretch, i would greatly appreciate it. Photo below is an example of one requiring repair. All carbon steel will be replaced with stainless. My company will handle any concrete repairs and setting of weld plates. Looking for someone to come in and burn rod.

This is a last ditch effort before I fly my welder down from Colorado and put him up in a hotel on the house.

Time is money! Get him flown down ASAP. No sense fucking around trying to find local If they haven't reached out yet to your request. It sucks, but progress needs to be made.

Been working on this welding table/cart thingy. Just about done, but I'm sure I'll have a few things to add, like figuring out lead holders for the plasma. Also, finally got a proper hood. Damn have I been missing out.

I haven't been welding long (started in Oct) but I knew I wanted to see better before and during my welding.

Said fuck it and went right to the Lincoln; glad I made the switch. Will see how it fairs with TIG welding next week.
