I was going to suggest focusing on the positives, but I sat here and thought about it. I was going to say your close to major cities and therefore work shouldn't be an issue and salaries are higher here. But that's all only necessary because of how expensive everything is. It's a pretty state generally, but Cali is f'n gorgeous. The main reasons the states both suck aren't allowed to be discussed on the forum though.

I can live in any one of 14 states we have locations in. I'm only hear so I can try to stop you have more of those roadside conversations you dream of. When you're away giving goose hunting classes I get very sad.

the beauty is a lot of that is changing, not sure how the job markets will change though. So many more companies are being okay with full remote, mine included. Definitely has making picking up and moving to a cheaper more rural state far easier. Would be amazing to live in the mountains of NC but still get Philly/Princeton/NYC money.

eventually the companies will catch on and pay you the rural state money. Or everyone will
Be earning the same pay no matter the job.

That's not how that works, the companies don't give a shit if you don't live in their state it's uncle sam, and they have laws to ensure you pay your fair share of the state tax you live in vs. work in, it's called tax reciprocity. If you are unfortunate enough to live/work where there is no reciprocity then you have to pay a bit more.

For real. It's one thing driving a truck but I drive the Acura all week long and it's starting to hurt.

At the risk of losing good talent. A web developer based out of the mountains of NC and only has done work locally that doesn't know the quick turn around that working for a big city agency will not survive.

Idk why I’m here. The fucking trash is this state bums me out. And I’m not talking bout the people directly. Drive almost any road in Jersey and look at the shoulder and curb lines… Out west (but not all the way west) were some of the most clean roadways I’ve ever seen. Also lack of road signs and guardrails are appeasing to the eye. No dummy drivers ready to sue. I have my favorite states after going cross country, but as I get older I’d be happy moving almost anywhere away from the high populated areas.

i was mainly talking about a basic social salary. but good talent now a days in a field like that is a dime a dozen. the trades are where its hurting most. I job hopped 3 jobs in 11 months and doubled my hourly rate. and I get calls almost weekly to offer me a job because good mechanics are hard to come by now. in a technology driven world your job is highly competitive and I know zero about it. no ones lining up behind me to take my place. the place Im at now has had a revolving door of mechanics for the last 4 years.

Colorado is the ultimate goal for us too. But I'll take moving to the mountains in the dirty south for a bit.
