Because you won't get into wrecks if you have a dashcam. Its the few years you put off getting a dash cam that you'll experience all the wrecks. Its science or something I guess.

Obviously a joke. But reasons listed above, its an investment/extra insurance. My wife would have 2 less "at fault/no fault" accidents on her record if we had bought her a dash cam. We're not the kind of people to go lawyer up and chase down people for everything they own, but a simple dash cam would have paid for itself multiple times over the past few years of higher insurance premiums.

 

This is the one I have. It's very inexpensive, compact and simple to install. The video quality is excellent. Most days, I forget it's on my window because it's so well hidden. It's nice to know that if/when something happens, I'll have an High Definition video of it. No more "my word vs theirs". With the dongle it plugs right into your rear view mirror:

You don’t have to show anything if you dont want to. Its a difficult situation though. It could be seized if it was a major incident. Honestly I drive safe enough so I don’t have to worry about being at fault. I do however have to worry about other drivers. I can only control my vehicle. I have always done so safely.

 

Love the center console organizers that have already been purchased. Also got the the blue accented cup holder/door inserts. Just ordered a set of these LED fogs. Look pretty decent from the reviews and pictures, I'll get them installed this weekend and see how they work.

Here in Florida if a cop notices you have one he/she has the right to seize it if they feel the potential evidence it contains could potentially be at risk if it remains in your possession regardless of the size of the incident. They hold it until they get a warrant for the contents. He/she probably wouldn't care on a fender bender of course. Too much paperwork. I've thought about both side of the argument and decided against a dash cam. Doesn't mean it's the right way to go, just the way I decided. Everyone needs to decide for themselves.

I can't find the thread but several months ago someone here actually posted their dash cam footage showing his wife getting t-boned in their Taco. Problem was the video clearly showed she ran a stop sign. After a couple of people commented the video came down and I'm sure disappeared

Yup agreed with your post. I know they can seize and will probably obtain a warrant so they can view it. As I said I know my driving so i wont be at fault. It will cover my ass.

 

Destruction of evidence but it would be hard to prove. Someone would have to see you take it out and them there would need be solidified proof that you did that.

They don't have a warrant to search you. Also I would not destroy anything. Simply slip it in my pocket and review it at the comfort of my home later. If there's anything I Want to show to insurance or police later on then I can.

 

Well the issue becomes when they ask to view it what do you say? You going to lie?

and there isnt a need for a warrant to search someone. Warrants are for property ie: cars homes electronics. Probably cause and incident to arrest are what allow cops to search you. You may be patted down for weapons so long the officer does not enter any interior clothing or pockets. Case law…
