Every shop I talked to when I was quoting gears and suspension already had the tool. It shouldn’t be your problem if they don’t. And if they don’t I’m not sure I’d trust this shop. I don’t know why it being only tangentially related should affect the labor cost. It’s like when people choose to add a locker when they regear. They do it to save labor. It’s not like they get double charged.

I was told don't even worry about the labor
    They have everything.

Plus, spending 10k already seems like a good reason to just throw this one in there ;)

And I shoot with the service manager on a regular basis, lol. So that helps.

    Nitros :(

If this has already been covered I apologize. Total gear novice here but does regearing to 5.29 affect Crawl Control at all?

Just put it into S1 and watch it crawl itself without crawl control.

    **5.29 Review after two weeks**

Got this done at Differential Solutions in BC, CANADA two weeks ago. Enrico is dope, Showed me around the shop and explained what they were going to do. He even broke in the truck for me overnight.

I've put 30k into this truck and I would say that the 5.29 swap has been the best money spent to-date. It completely changes the truck and makes it enjoyable to drive, especially in the city. You rip through gears REALLY fast but that extra agility that comes it with is totally worth it. The fuel mapping that I have (default OVTUNE) is not ideal but you can cruise in the city and highway with way left shifting and a much smoother ride, since you're farther into the powerband.

Next step is a new ECU map that is optimized for these gears. The default shift points are WAY too aggressive

I was planning on going with the KDMax Pro tune for the 5.29's. What do you plan on using? I am currently stock and going to run that way during the break in (which won't take long for me).

Can anyone confirm 5.29 and 265 tires on 2.7L engine speed limits at ~80mph?

Unless the 2.7L uses a different limiter, then yes, it will be limited to 80-85 without a tune that unlocks the limiter (OVTune, KDMax, etc).

bummer, will have to do 4.88, although its only 12% jump from hopefully does something for 2.7L

4.88s are great. You won’t have any complaints. But you should consider getting a tune as there are other benefits as well.

No tunes for 2.7L 2018+, problem with re-gearing 2.7 is my dif already 4.30 vs 3.9 for 3.5L, but should put me at stock ratio with 33” tires.

I just got a reply on my 5.29s...

They said October or November. A year turn around. Guess that's the death of Nitro? Confirmed? Or would that also be the other shops too due to shortages and such? Just seems odd having users that got here around the same time frame as me - or later - already getting theirs installed.

So, what are my other options? If it's going to be that long then I guess I'm tuning first. Ugh, I'm pretty salty right now...

Have you tried calling shops that stock gears rather than Nitro directly? Here in Utah I've seen shops able to schedule gear installs within a month.
