    This.

I know all of us who chose factory lift have been given all kinds of $hit in this forum. But knowing the MWR sensor is factory calibrated is a huge relief! The extra $$$ is worth it. Still wish I found a $700 install though! ;)

I hit a deer with my Tacoma and have a 2" lift with Bilstein 6112/5160s. The OEM TRD Off-road grill was replaced and the insurance also paid to have the sensor recalibrated. It works perfect for all functions after.

Modifications are bad and only bad people modify.
It's so varied what type of labor dealers charge, but it shouldn't be more than six hours for sure! I got lucky that the closest one was at five hours. One of the dealers I contacted during my carpet bombing got back to me today with a 27XX quote plus tax. It's literally throwing darts blindfolded.

In regards to being given sh*t, I think (especially) for a beginner like me that the included nice grille, warranty, alignment, new MWS sensor/confirming calibration of all the things, that it's worth the price. A comparable set of quality struts installed along with the extras included in the kit isn't going to be much cheaper than $2000, and certainly closer to 2k than 1k given you're using OEM parts. It's also about your goals too IMO. I don't want to run anything bigger than 32" AT/MTs right now, since those can get me to 99% of anywhere I could want to go, but someone could probably go 33s on this kit with the right mutilation.

Been lifted on 5100s, OEM Pro grill and never had an issue with the sensor. Thousands of people lift these trucks with the tss and no issues. I had a Bilstein lift done at a local 4wd shop who does all the local dealers and not one issue and it doesn't effect my warranty in anyway!

You bring up a good point that most don't realize. Lots of dealerships contract the labor for the lift install out to a secondary shop. I know that where I live they do this because after I installed my 6112/5160 package I took it to Four Wheel parts for an alignment and they were doing the complete suspension package for several Tacomas for the local dealership.

Multiple people have said they have been denied warranty and recall work on their TSS sensors due to having an aftermarket lift. If they deny you, you can try to fight it under MM etc, but that requires time and quite possibly lawyers, which can be a pita and some people don't want to have to deal with that.

I believe since this is an OEM/Toyota solution that they'd have to have the Toyota mechanics do the OEM lift at the dealership. I'm sure for dealers that sell aftermarket lifts to customers they can contract that out to a secondary shop, but I think with the OEM lift it would have to be done on-site. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

I agree with your sentiments here.

I think the point that has been missed is when someone says "thousands of people lift these trucks with the tss and no issues," that's not an entirely correct statement. People wouldn't necessarily know that there's an issue. It's the recalibration to account for the lift. That's why the TRD Lift Kit includes the new MWR sensor. So there's a good chance that the calibration might be off with an aftermarket lift, meaning maybe pre-collision system sensor doesn't detect as fast. Not that it WON'T detect, but maybe it's a 1/4 second off which would affect things.

And I'm sure with some smaller dealerships, they could outsource the installation of the lifts. That's fine. But I know that it's best practice to have Toyota-certified mechanics working on the trucks. They wouldn't just have some uncertified mechanic installing them.

I have had mine since April. No regrets especially with the piece of mind that any issue will be covered under warranty. I think the lift rides better than stock.

Thanks for the replies. Totally new to this, so learning as I go.

Excuse another noob question, but I read a dozen or so pages back that the TRD lift has 3 settings in the front? Would it be possible to not go the full 2" in the front and still maintain some rake?

If I remember correctly, the middle setting will give you 1.5" of lift. You will have .5" of rake

I think the instructions specify which setting based off what style Tacoma you have (4WD DC, 2WD DC, AC and etc..) The instructions are posted in this thread, but I would assume you could ask the dealer doing the install to use the 1.5 setting and see what they say.

For me personally the TRD lift made the most sense. I am in the military so when I move I don't have to worry about a new dealer saying they won't cover something because of an aftermarket lift. I have moved plenty of times and it always a pain when you have to deal with a new dealer and feel them out.

I learned dealing with Jeep that sometimes it is better to go with the OEM option. Jeep will deny a warranty claim in a second if they see an aftermarket part and then it is on you to fight it and prove the part didn't cause the failure. You can bet every other OEM will do the same because at the end of the day it is profit based business. Or you can go to court for a MM claim and end up spending more than you would have just paying for the repair. Toyota or Jeep have way more expensive lawyers that can just tie you up in arbitration, court and any other legal crap for years while your evidence (truck) sits in a garage just waiting.

I have had the lift for over a year and 10K miles. Still rides like day one, a bit firmer without all the wallowing. I did it because I got a killer deal but would have passed at the retail prices I see on here.

You are wrong.. I saw the new Tacomas with the window sticker on the window at Four Wheel Parts when I had mine aligned. Further when I went to the dealer and asked about an alignment, they told me that they have Four Wheel Parts do their Suspension packages and alignments for them. That is why I ended up going to Four Wheel Parts for the alignment after installing my suspension.
This was from a very large dealership in the Twin Cities metro of MN.

I had the TRD lift installed on my 2022 TRD OR MT shortly after I took delivery. I began to notice a vibration in the rear after it was installed. I can see my bed shaking when this occurs. Begins to show up around 50mph. Dealer claimed it was out of balance tires and stiffness from new shocks should be expected. I’m not buying it. Still running factory duratracs. Has anyone experienced this? Thanks for any input

Just have them re balance the rear tires only . That should take care of the problem

I meant to add that balancing the tires did not solve the issue. Returned the truck to the dealer

Which dealer? I'm also in MN. And this was for sure the OEM lift they were talking about having installed at 4WP, not a 3rd party one?
