What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Especially after you cut the fenders and run no flares.

Proportions are everything. The 1st gen is smaller so smaller tires usually look bigger on it.
But something like the Jeep gladiator, imo 40's are the most proportionally looking tire on that thing cause of how big it is.

Keep telling myself the same thing.....one day.....

 

Gotta keep that fender gap low, or get good at posing for photos in just the right way.

 

They're now my highest valued investment haha, the 6 new Cooper 315s in the garage have nearly tripled in value.

 

True, that. Gladiators look sad with anything smaller than a 40.

 

At least I got my money refunded and a quote good for my promo price, but who knows when they're in stock again.

Wish there were more 35x11.50r17 options, might have to go with the Toyos.

 

Chains on front of an ifs truck would be sketchy asf. I know that’s not a major point in this conversation just still. Hard pass for me.

 

When I had 31’s I ran chains on the front all the time. Not the least bit sketchy.


I’ve gone to 33’s so it’s a little tight to run chains on the front now.

 

I’ve never felt the need I guess. Chaining up the back and locking the axle takes me alot of places I shouldn’t go.

Okay… about 9 hours into it and this is what I’ve got… my welding is not so good on this trucks sheetmetal.. getting better as I go lol. At full tuck and turn, I just barely rub the frame. My next project is manual front hubs and tundra brakes. So I’m gonna look at 10-15mm spacers, and longer studs.

I just unbolted the lower section of the fender and pulled it out… tbh, too lazy to remove them right now. Will cut as a final step

I could only find 16ga sheetmetal, and it’s turning out to be a thorn in my ass… got a friend who’s got some 18 so I’m gonna grab that tonight and hope it pounds out a lot easier. Hard to get it to curve..

 

oh yeah i tried first with 16ga and it was a bitch. Ended up with 22 I think

 

Looking good! Removing the fenders easy but at this point, fuckit.

Man I wish. But then I need a truck big enough to tow it, plus a trailer. It gets expensive fast. As my wife reminded me, sports mobile is the better choice now and later it can tow a toy. But I want instant gratification!!!

 

Solution is to buy more beaters.

 

Scored some 20ga tonight.. gonna be a breeze tomorrow!

Okay well, that's where I'm stopping for the night, gotta finish my proportioning valve stuff still but this is a nice start and it helps revive the motivation to see the x-members partially back in place.



Liking the positioning here, seems accessible and outta the way.

It's a start, I'll knock the real bracket out of some 1/8 flat bar now that I have a nice template and a confirmed fit with the new hose.


Got some glitter bolts in finally, couldn't put back the rusty garbage from before.
